I hate these bull**** questions. My instant answer is always, "Because I want to be a doctor and you happen to offer the degree."

Alas, we must make up some feel-good bs.

I found some real advantages specific to the schools that I interviewed at. Unfortunately, these things are easier recognized when you do visit the campus. The best thing to do is read the school's entire website and even search for the school here and read as much as you can stand about it taking notes about things that you like and form it into an essay. This is an important aspect of your application so don’t get lazy on it. You can read specific opinions on here from current students about their schools which may help you. For instance if I say that international medicine is important to me and my school offers opportunities to take some of my electives in other countries and that appeals to you, you may use it. I have listed things that I like about UMDNJ many times but here are a few things.

Small class size - people get to know each other fast and really try to help each other. It really becomes a family fast.

Interactive curriculum - preceptor from beginning so you get clinical experience, simulated patient lab, small group PBL sessions incorporated into traditional curriculum, online content and support.

School is research oriented - many research opportunities and programs which are encouraged from orientation.

Hospital on campus - self explanatory

I am sure there is more but I need to study and you get the picture, just do a search and read up and the different schools will show their qualities.

BTW: this essay is also a disguise for the adcom to find out if you have looked into their specific school and thought about it. Anyone can say: “I like your school because the curriculum is great” about any school but if you go into specifics it makes you shine. Just my opinion

Yeah, I know what you mean though. Something you say may sound superficial...but if it's the truth, it's the truth. Just avoid BSing and I think you'll be fine.

Exactly. You have to come up with reasons why you want to be there. It really doesn't matter since it should be different from each applicant.
