Why does AMCAS say "Ready for review?"

My AMCAS status is still at ready for review, when they've already received all my transcripts, and the login says that they are currently entering transcripts received on 6/23/08, and they got my last one on 6/10/08!!! I also just got an email from Washington University in St. Louis thanking me for applying and directing me to the secondary...

Something's wrong here...

I submitted on 6/13/08 and went "under review" on 6/23/08 and was verified on 6/25/08. I submitted 6 transcripts so I'm sure the verifier was pulling his hair out trying to verify me.

There's a serious problem for you to have been under review for so long.

I know, and I submitted 4 transcripts... but every time I call they give me the same BS about how I'm under review and it can take up to 6 weeks... so I asked and they wouldn't even check to make sure my transcripts were square, no idea whats going on with it, but it is REALLY stressing me out... Although JW has suggested I call and speak with a supervisor, so I'll probably do that in another couple days... Here's hopin it just gets verified so I don't have to worry about it!

Good luck and hope it gets straightened out asap. On another note, they changed up some things when verifying me on my entered coursework and it cost me .06 on my cumulative GPA. And I thought I had been meticulous when entering my coursework. 😡

Something's wrong here...

The "entering of transcripts" refers to the notification of the receipt of the transcripts not the actual verification using the transcripts.

Some schools send secondaries before verification.

It sounds like you are still in line to be reviewed.

No problem. Sorry you haven't been verified yet... it's weird how they seemingly aren't going in order.

Yeah, I don't think anything is done in any particular order. They probably just have a giant stack of apps and transcripts from a certain day and they just start plowing through them...maybe the group working on 6/11/08 is just really slow??

Also, I submitted 2 of my LORs via Interfolio to AMCAS. The one I submitted 2 weeks later has arrived and the one I submitted 2 weeks earlier has not been registered with AMCAS.

I sent them an email...but I figure it's just out of order. Oh well.

Maybe that stack just gets bigger and bigger and those people who submitted earlier get further and further away from being verified. I hope I'm not at the bottom of that growing stack of apps.......

I'm assuming "Ready for Review" means that your app is ready to get verified and is either in a queue to get picked up by a verifier or is assigned to a verifier already. I think that "Under Review" means a reviewer has accessed your app and has (probably) started verifying. Under review for 8 days could just mean they started on your app and got bored with it or just didn't finish it after they started for whatever reason.

Now I'm worried... I just purged my spam, and am scared that there were emails from schools! Is it common to get secondaries before being verified? I didn't think that happened, so I deleted my spam box thinking it was okay... ahhh!

When it says "received," does that also mean they verified the grades? Or do they still have to verify the grades on top of that? Were they verifying them before I submitted my AMCAS?

Also, when do you actually see how they calculated your GPA? I want to make sure they calculated it correctly before they send it out to schools. I don't want them making a mistake and submitting my apps to schools before I can correct their mistake. In other words, I want to see how they calculated it, and then I'll give them the go-ahead that they can submit the app to schools. Or do they just send out the apps as soon as you hit submit without giving you a chance to doublecheck their calculation for mistakes or not? How does this work?

No. It means that your transcripts are locked and loaded into the system. Verification does not start until you hit submit and pay them money.

Yes, that is how it works (instant send), but you can submit an academic change request if there are errors and the schools will be updated appropriately.

There is a thread on this. You are looking at the 8-10 business day turnaround time for submitting in that time frame. Those that submit after, will experience longer verification times.

If you had waited until August it could take 4-6 weeks to go from "Ready for Review" to "Verified." 😱

I predict 11+ calendar days for those submitting now, probably reaching a full 3 weeks plus by the end of next week.

(Still applying early enough if you submit now, it just sucks waiting)

Hi all,

I submitted my AMCAS on 6/11, and my two transcripts were confirmed on 6/13 and 6/17, but I have been put on 'ready for review' permanently...I had been taking it easy knowing it's a slow process, but it's been over 3 weeks now, and I thought that submitting 'early' should not be this slow...is something wrong?

This doesn't bode well for the rest of the process...*sigh*

I was verified on 7/2 and submitted the 18th. You were not complete till the 17th so you are really only two business days past the average for when you submitted. Hopefully you will be verified next week.

Hey hon - I totally hear where you're coming from. I submitted 6/9 and wasn't "under review" until 6/24.

When I called and politely asked AMCAS if something was wrong with my app, the woman informed me that "order of submission does not necessarily correlate with order of verification" (and if you have a gander at the official verification thread, you will see this is the case - some people get verified really quick while others take a while). Basically, when you submit your file is put into a big electronic folder of sorts, and the AMCAS people pull apps out at random - in no particular order. Frustrating, I know, but just think you ARE still at an advantage for applying early - think how many apps will be in that folder come august 🙂

Give it time and patience, I'm sure you will be verified soon (remember this past week was the 4th). Also, I find that being polite and friendly if you do call AMCAS can only help you - I was verified within 24 hours of talking to that lady.....
