I got a 30T (10/10/10), which was kind of disappointing, with the only really good factor being my essay score. But everyone says that it doesn't matter. Why do they even have it in the MCAT if med schools don't even look at it? Does it do anything for me?

Thanks

Canadian schools look at it. Also a lot of people don't like the verbal section, but can prove themselves capable of communicating in english through the essay. They should have scrapped it. Originally the CBT version was only going to have 1 essay, but they changed it right before they finalized the new exam.

Its very important for Canadian schools...

so i don't know why it doesn't matter for US schools

to make people like me with an essay score of O feel better about myself

I also got an essay score of O, and I was slightly pissed off. So is it really true that it doesn't matter? Because I was thinking of having it regraded, but I'm not sure if it's really worth it. Any advice is appreciated.

The writing section doesn't really matter unless you're in Canada. Getting a S or T might be a small advantage. Getting a J or K might get you a question about it at an interview. Other than that, don't worry about it. I know a ton of people with 35L/Ms that got into top tier schools and were never questioned about their WS.

The writing section doesn't matter as much because it is subjective, even given the set of requirements they have for each letter grade. I think after you get higher than Q, the letters don't mean as much. For example, a T is really good but not WAY better than an R. Likewise, a score below O means your writing could use a little work.

I think they will take notice if you have a way low score, other than that, you just have to do decent on it.
