Why doesn't AMCAS have some sort of centralized applicant status portal?

Where basically you would log into AMCAS and see not only the list of all the schools to which you applied but also your latest status at each of the schools (ie - 'waiting for applicant to submit secondary', 'missing LOR', 'complete,' 'invited for interview,' 'accepted,' 'withdrawn', etc.). It would also be useful to see your application timeline when you click on a school (to see when you were complete, when they offered an invite, when they made a decision, etc.). I know many of us did a poor-man's version of this using Excel but it gets so tedious especially when you apply to a bunch of schools and when you're getting several secondary requests a day and need to log into each of the school's specific secondary pages to see your status.

Meh... I didn't really think it was that difficult. I created folders on my computer and in my email application and then just moved schools from one status folder to another. Not really that tough.

Because AMCAS would get a larger cut of the secondary fees!

How would schools make that $$$$$$$$$

Why isn't there a super super store that has walmart, target, krogers, nordstrom, and trader joes in 1?

These people can't even bother to make their website work with modern browsers. No competition, no motive for them to improve or add any functionality, unfortunately.

On a more practical note, that would require way too much from schools (as previous posters had mentioned) who don't have their own business in order.

It seems so simple though. People in admissions log into their account and see a list of all the students that applied to their school. Then they have a drop-down menu that they can select to put stuff like 'secondary sent' 'withdrawn', 'invited for interview', 'accepted', etc. which are then updated with the applicants' account. They can even automate an email to be sent when they select one of the drop-down menu options for their "you still aren't complete" or "you've been invited to an interview" or "you've been placed on the wait-list." The current system is it stands is way too fragmented and non-uniform.

Plus I'm pretty sure AMCAS has some sort of centralized system in place because in mid-February all schools that have accepted you can see all of your acceptances (if any) and in mid-March all schools that have you have applied to can see all of your acceptances. It would be extremely helpful if this system was expanded and applicants got to see their status at all schools on demand.

The AADSAS (application for dental school) is like this. It's a centralized location for interview offers, acceptances, etc. It wouldn't be that hard for AAMC to do, but then again there's double the number of medical schools than dental schools so making the switch might be difficult. Plus you have schools that communicate solely via snail mail 😡

eras is like that too, although not exactly the same. You can't see your status at programs but they can use the system to send you messages (such as interview invites)

I'm definitely behind you flatearth. So many schools have their random nuances ("we'll email you if you were accepted, but you'll have to check your online status to see if you're waitlisted or rejected"👎). Plus the occasional "stealth II" without an email or anything, just a status update. A centralized service would make it a lot smoother IMO

You think that's bad?? There are still some schools that don't even have an online status page for their own secondaries (e.g. UTHSC-Houston) or do everything by snail mail - interview invite, acceptances, etc (e.g. LSU-New Orleans).

Houston didn't have a secondary though?

To the OP: That would make it far too easy to apply to medical school. 😏
