why do so many pharm schools not want any transfer students...im guessing if you did your pre-pharm at their school you get first dibs??...im at wingate right now, say i wanna transfer after my first sem. to sc, in sc finish my pre pharm....will i have dibs on sc's pharm school since i completed most of my pre pharm there?

i think you're completely misunderstanding the instructions on these websites.

Most schools do not want you to transfer in MIDWAY through pharmacy school. For example, if you're P-2 at Wingate, USC will not even entertain the question of you transferring in for P-3. Also, a majority of pharmacy schools do not care where you went for undergrad and have no preference for their own university's undergraduates. Those that do often have a formal program outlined.

This would have nothing to do with your transfer status in your undergraduate years; in fact, you don't even have to have a BS/BA degree to get into pharmacy school.

Reread those instructions and see if it makes sense now.

Curriculum is different from school to school - therefore it would make transfering impossible. Not every school teaches the same things as well and want different criteria to be met prior to graduation (all within the pharmacy boards of course). There is a great degree of freedom that schools can use to shape their course material and have different approaches to doing it.

There are actually schools that will not accept transfer students (as in you must attend their school for pre-pharm to be admitted into pharm)

I only know this because I wanted to apply to Duquesne last year, and could not for the life of my figure out how to do it. So I called their admissions and asked and was told that they were not accepting transfer applications until the 2009 application season. I think they may be revamping their program a bit, so maybe that was why? I dont know, no one ever found out why.

i think the transfer category is referring to undergrad b/c campbell says "estimated transfer students = 60" ...there is no way 60 folks are transferring from another PharmD program! i think they mean undergrads b/c i know for a fact my school (campbell) prefers their own students.

wow, you seem pretty optimistic about that. I know the colleges websites say a B.S. isn't required, but if you don't have one, aren't you in the EXTREME minority?

optimistic? i'm talking technicality there, it's entirely possible to get into A pharmacy school without a BS/BA, but probably not the competitive programs (ie UCSF, UCSD, USC, UOP...). If you don't have a BS/BA, you're at a disadvantage, but I wouldn't call it extreme (unlike medical school, where it would probably be an extreme disadvantage)

I'm probably the biggest proponent of getting a BS/BA en route to pharmacy school!

Uh, no.

i know there are some medical schools for doctors over seas that are easier to get into than the ones in the states....are there pharm schools over seas like this?
