Hey everyone, I applied late this cycle (13th batch), and have not yet heard from any of the 7 dental schools I applied to. I do not think I will get in (I plan on reapplying in June), but I expected to at least receive some rejections by now. I got a 20 on the DAT and after my academic update I will only have a 2.9sGPA and BCP (serious upward trend with graduate classes and upper-level's all A's). I thought I would at least get rejected from a few by now. I applied to UDM, Michigan, Tufts, NYU, UNC, VCU, and Maryland. Am I being too anxious? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Well, I'd presume that you don't have any acceptances yet because of the 2.9. However, if you have no rejections yet, you must have some other stuff on your app that's helping you out. Are you non trad? You might be in a pool of applicants that are being considered for interviews if the schools need some additional candidates. I'd expect you to hear more in the coming months when schools either conduct their final interviews, or fill their classes.

Nevertheless, keep doing what you're doing. Apply in June like you said if you don't get in - that will help a lot for next cycle!

I think a lot of schools just don't bother rejecting you until the last possible minute they have to do so. I was first batch and Maryland hasn't communicated with me at all. I feel like I just handed them $80 and they threw my application in the trash. THANKS GUYS. NYU and UoP I feel like are also just silent rejections.

But good luck next cycle, I'm right there with you. May the odds be ever in our favor.

NYU gave me a solid rejection. But I do agree with you, that they just take the money and run (Loma Linda...)

OP, hopefully you'll hear something soon, but try calling them. They are nicer on the phone, hah, and just ask if there were any updates on your app or what your current status is. Good luck, and I hope you get in 🙂

I would look into a Masters. Even with a very solid upward trend, a 2.9 for both sGPA and BCP is not very competitive. With a 3.7+ in a Masters and the 20 DAT you have, you should have no problem with getting acceptances.

I have a 3.7 in my Masters and a 21AA on the DAT. I have yet to be accepted anywhere. Just one waitlist so far.

So.. it really depends what else is in the application.

Thanks for the responses. I actually started a Master's in the fall and did really well. The 3.8 I received boosted my GPA a lot but I have so many credits my overall GPA's are not budging much. You all made me feel better about it, though, so thanks everyone! I think I may call a few today or tomorrow just to make sure I even completed my app! (still paranoid).

True, a Masters definitely does not guarantee an acceptance (but if you complete Midwestern's Masters, they guarantee you an interview for what it's worth), but I can bet without the Masters you wouldn't even have gotten the interview for the waitlist. With that said, numbers are definitely not everything (matters a lot, though) and like you said, what you have in the application and experiences can definitely help you.

BKelly - Even though your Masters won't really have a major effect on your GPA due to the number of credits, on AADSAS they separate your Undergrad and Graduate grades, and consensus on SDN seems to be that if you completed a Masters, they will semi-ignore your undergrad GPA.

Good luck with the remainder of your cycle. If you don't get in this cycle, once you finish that Masters in the summer and if you re-apply early and broadly, your chances of getting in will increase significantly.
