Why is current the same through a series circuit?

The current is simply flowing in a straight line. Think of fluid flowing through a pipe. If the pipe doesn't divide into smaller pipes, the volume that is flowing through it remains the same. Unlike resistors in parallel, where there are nodes and current must split or for fluids, pipe divides into 2 and the water enters both the pipes, resistors in series are in a straight line path, thus current remains constant. No alternate paths for the current to branch off to, so it's all focused in one direction. No need to apply Kirchoff's rules for current change.
