Why is Howard subject of sarcastic jokes

I am curious to know what is so bad about Howard dental school. I received an interview there and was accepted and from the interview it seemed like an okay school. I've also seen students make sarcastic comments and in some cases offensive ones about this school. I hope someone could clarify for me what it is about the school that I should be worried about? I'd just like to know so I can make an informed decision between Howard and Nova.

The average stats of students that are accepted to Howard are generally very low comparatively. Often people associate the school with sub-par students, sub-par education and sub-par grads. I highly doubt this sentiment carries over to the general public though. We all take the same licensing boards...

If you had good stats above 3.8 and 20's on DAT and only accepted at Howard, would you enroll or is it such a bad school that you'd actually wait for the next cycle.

So far I only got into Nova and Howard but can only really afford Howard.

They call you doctor no matter where you graduate from...and if you are academically advantaged compared to your classmates, it may be easier to rank higher and get a spec...I wouldn't waste a year because the school takes students based on criteria other than academics, get in and get out. Your patients won't know the difference and the quality of education you get in any dental school is largely up to you.

I was even shadowing a dentist at Stony Brook University who was doing his residency who was from Howard. He seemed competent to me, and plus Im pretty sure that SBU is hard to get into for residency, I think.

So if you got in, go for it!
I would kill to get in anywhere.

I actually really liked the school and the faculty, the only downside was the area the school was in. Also, costing less than half of some other dental schools is also a big draw.

The reason their stats are low is because they don't only focus on stats as much as other schools do. They're looking for passion, dedication, and willingness to serve others. Sure, other dental schools say that too, but I really felt it was an honest statement from them, rather than just being what other schools say in their mission statements. And I've seen countless studies that show that entering stats/grades have very little connection to clinical ability, which really makes sense. You can have a photographic memory, but having hands like stones won't do you very well in dental school.

People are just way too negative and don't look beyond stats. I have been telling people for a while that Howard is one of the best schools in the country. Meharry is also really great. 👍. When it comes down to it, dental graduates from any dental school all come out with a DDS and can practice anywhere.

These stats, if they are true, are directly related to upbringing and educational opportunities, not skin color. Which race are most people in poor ghettos with horrible education systems? Black. Which race are most people in rich suburban areas with good public or even private education systems? White.

If only black people from rich suburban areas had been tested, I'd be willing to be that their stats would be just as good as the "white averages" above. If white people from poor areas with no good education opportunities were tested, their stats would be just as bad as the "black averages" above. Your skin color alone doesn't determine your IQ.
