This has come up a lot in my classes (especially when I was in OChem) and was curious if anyone else always wondered why OChem was only a 3 credit hour class and Gen Chem was 4 credit hour class....it seems like far more time went into studying/learning organic chemistry and the labs were definitely longer and more difficult. The class times, for me personally, were of the same length. Gen Chem class was 3 times a week for an hour and twenty minutes and for me, O Chem was meeting 4 times a week for an hour and thirty minutes (took an accelerated course), but the regular semester ones were the same as gen chem. Just seeing if any SDNers ever wondered the same thing/why they think it is

In my college, we definitely spent more time in the classroom with orgo because we had a mandatory session where we would have a quiz and group exercises. Credits don't always correlate with class length, I guess. Calculus is a 5 credit class and usually the class met twice a week for 50 minutes. No idea how that works out.

Also, Gen Chem was 3 credits for me.

Yeah I never understood that....like my physics lab usually lasted 50 minutes tops (was scheduled to last an hour and 40 minutes at most)....and the actual class was 50 minutes 3 times a week...but it was a 5 credit hour course....not complaining since I got A's so it was a GPA booster, but still didn't make sense to me.

All science courses at my school were 3 credit hours. The labs for lower level sciences were 1 credit hour (gen chem, bio, physics, etc) and the others are 2 credit hours (orgo, biochem, etc) because they included a 1 hour lecture in addition to the 3 hour lab per week.
