Why is Psychiatry so vilified?

Note to self: Having to think in these terms is why I'm glad I don't live in the UK anymore.

The only question that raises is why on earth would any one want to come to such a dreary rain sodden little island in the first place?

The point I was making again, from The Great Gatsby, the quintessential American novel on social class and wealth. "Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."


Of all the many great things about the U.S. and I would import much of it unadulterated including the political system, warts and all, is its meritocratic instinct. But classless? The U.S.? That would be news to me and Bush number two as well I expect (shades of North korea in the Republican Party imo) discounting the fact that he probably did believe he was the best man for the job.
