why is this reaction E2???

answer in the book says E2.. am i missing something, wouldnt that polar protic solvent make it E1??

the reaction is :


2-iodobutane reacted with NaOCH3 and CH3OH yields----->

It is E2, as CH3ONa is a strong base as well as a good nucleophile.

For E1, it is weak base/weak nucleophile, such as CH3OH (alcohol).

ok.. I see that.. but at the same time a polar solvent favors E1?
