So I was looking around at the potential tracts that the military has for physicians and I noticed there is a lack of PM&R. I was wondering why this is as I think the military and it's veterans stand to benefit from such a field.

I know several active duty PM&R physicians trained in military programs. It tends to be very competitive to get in the military, as opposed to more middle-of-the-road in the civilian world. Where were you looking?

Also: *its.

There is limited need for PM&R in the military. There is no need for them on the battlefield, and we can hire civilians in the US. The military is all about what you need on the battlefield for active duty.

Veterans do. Which is why there is so much civilian PM&R specialists at the VA. Active duty, much less so.

Navy primarily. I was under the assumption that you did not attend residency in the military, but fulfilled your duty after your residency in the civilian world. Am I wrong?

It looks like the Army program in D.C. is the only active duty one.

You have the basics down, but getting a deferment for a civilian residency can be difficult. Unfortunately, I have no specifics to offer you regarding Navy PM&R.

The Navy has been attempting to use the Army program. I think they sent one there last year. I suspect we will only train one every other year or so. Again, there is not a great demand for them.
