Alright... I am slighty ignorant, I guess... what is Osteopathic Medicine as opposed to Allopathic Medicine?
I looked on ALOT of sites, but alot of the info tends to contradict.

1) I really liked my school’s quality, price, and location
2) It is the best medical school that accepted me
3) Manipulation and the OMM skills I have learned WILL make me a better diagnostician if not just giving me some extra skills to relieve pain.
4) All roads lead to Rome, or in my case, Surgery.

My GPA/MCAT wasn't high enough for Gorilla school 🙁

oops wrong thread!!

Seriously, I am non-traditional and making up for a less than stellar undegraduate career. I am not the same person (academically, personally, and professionally) that I was 15 years ago when I was in college. However, allopathic schools still see you as such. Osteopathic schools use grade replacement when caculating their GPAs. Now, I can show that I am an excellent student and a definate contender for medical school.

Like Nate said...all roads lead to rome.

Same here... err.. not about gorilla school, about being a different person that the allopathics didn't recognize.

because of a lot of things... Here are some quotes from my Fundamentals of Osteopathic Manipulation book

"osteopathic medicine is both effective and time efficient, DOs are able to spot somatovisceral disfunction at much earlier stages avoiding high cost diagnostic tests. This also leads to a much better prognosis because a disease is caught at an early state"

OMM is a missing link in the learning of medicine for most doctors.. DOs get this missing link therefor have a better and more clear understanding of the human body.

I know that when i "memorize" anatomy it always makes much more sense after i study OMM because it ties everything together!

I'm still doing it for the women. DO girls are hotter than MD girls, and way hotter than the Gorilla girls. I'm not really into the hairy ladies😉

for me....I was a nutrition major, big into athletics/working out, will likely specialize in something dealing w/ the musculoskeletal system, like the focus on preventative med and primary care over research, liked the overally friendly (non-competative) atmospheres of faculty and students, was very impressed by the DO physicians I had met.....etc....

all that made the choice to attend a DO school logical...

Forget it, I go to WVSOM.

They are all either:

1) Married
2) Engaged
3) Have a boy friend
4) Not interested

I know its sad news, but its the truth.😳

True, but at least they are all still hotter than the MD girls who are
married, engaged, have a boyfriend, not interested, or a lesbian (you forgot that last one).

Honestly, I think I will be a much better doctor as a DO than I would as an MD. I'm non-trad, and have interviewed now at 2 allopathic and 3 DO schools. I went back and forth on this for a long time, but I just feel that DO school will:

1) give me better overall tools (I want to be primary care - preferably dual residency of Internal Medicine/PM & R, or Internal Medicine/EM... but am thinking about general surgery (trauma) as another possibility) to be a rural doc.

2) give me OMM as another modality to work with.

3) have a higher average student age (and probably maturity).

All just my own opinion about what works with me. Most of all, it just FEELS right to consider being a DO, and it doesn't feel the same considering being an MD for some reason. To me, that's the most important, personal reason.

Try from a girl's point of view at WVSOM.
All the guys are either way too young, married/engaged/taken, just not datable material.

Interesting. Could you elaborate on the first and third options?

honestly, right now I just don't know how I could fit it in! I am so busy w/ classes and studying so far, maybe after I have time to breathe and get used to this I will start wanting a relationship, but now...eh... 😕

In my class there are approx 60% guys, many of them are married or in serious relationships, but of course there are some that could potentially be datable-- they're pretty much all smart, and many are cute too. But, then again there is the whole thing about dating classmates... hmmm... get to see them everyday for 8 hrs whether we end up together or not... awkward much? but, if it happens, it happens. let us just clarify, not actively seeking

This is why you dont date with in your class. 😉

I know this is not in response to the original question but was too tempted to comment on dating within one's own class... hey I did it, and it was the best move I could have done both personally and academically. I went for a smarter and more studious person who pushed me along and helped me excel. Since we both had the same subjects, we shared notes and quizzed each other- like having two brains or studying twice as much type of deal. It worked out great for the both of us, but me more so. Also, the other person is a great person to understand and whine to at the end of the day 😛 . I know I am not the only one in class that has dated a fellow classmate. Few of my classmates have done the same as I did and are now married. So, dating within the same class sometimes works for some... and sometimes it doesn't. Luck of your draw I guess. I got lucky :luck:

I am going to meet an osteopathic physician and shadow him starting next tuesday, and he told me to bring a lunch with me. I know this is a stupid question, but what kind of lunch should I take with me when I meet him? what kind of lunch is normal?

i guess that something that can be categorized as a non-messy food...
in other words definetly do not bring food that resembles that they give ppl on the plane (like rice in beef souce and green peas with baby carots)...it is especially hard to eat with those plastic forks....it can be pretty embarasing when you get your shirt all spotty by dropping those peas from your fork. Peas also like to go into places where no one should see your hand wandering. It would be very uncomfortable trying to get them out of there

i think that sandwich would be your best bet.

Any type of food that can easily be manipulated: e.g. chicken wings, pastries, noodles (to be eated w/ chop sticks).

Remember DO's are manipulative in all aspects of their work...
