Hi!

just wondering if you guys could help me out with the question: why should we accept you into our school?

I don't know exactly how they want us to approach this question...are we supposed to throw in some qualities stating why we would be good physicians or some student qualities?...i'm not sure how i'm supposed to sell myself on this question.

please help!

thanks 🙂

Maybe just give them a good reason to accept you...

Like:

'Why should we accept you'

'because if you don't i'll burn your school to the ground'

I would imagine that would be as good a reason as any for an acceptance

how 'bout "because some day when I'm done I'm going to be a damn fine doctor. And I'm going to tell people where I went to school."

Because you are not going to find another applicant as passionate and hard-working and you will work a hundred times harder once you are accepted.

or

why not?

these are all extremely well thought out and very helpful responses...great work team

"because my father can be very generous with his checkbook"

Thats basically what I said during an interview when asked this questin (or smoething similar to this question) except I put it much more elagantly.

OP, just tell them what you have to offer. I chose to focus on these two things:

a) what I will bring to the campus as a medical student
b) what I believe I will accomplsih as a phsyician that would make them proud to say "Hey, Dr. Rysserr went to our school!"

Just start quoting lines from the song handlebars by flobots.

"because I'm freakin' awesome!"

then BAM! acceptance😎👍

Whip out a boombox, put on "I'm too sexy" and start unbuttoning your shirt.

So, keeping rhythm with no metronome works? Sweet.

In seriousness, when I was asked this, I said a lot of what others said: what I would add to the study body and to the school. It gives me a chance to touch on things that might be unknown to my interviewer. If given the chance, I would always try to hit things on my list of "what my interviewer needs to know before I leave".

"The reason is in my pants.....no serious, I'm slingin' pipe"

Or you could just stop being modest and lay out all of your pros in a positive and efficient manner.

I wasn't asked any of those premanufactured questions in my interviews. But, that question is designed to make you think about how your application is set apart from others. What views or qualities about your application do you feel stand out from the rest? For me, I would say, "I am not your traditional applicant. I believe my experience in healthcare has given me a unique understanding of medicine that few other would be able to bring to (insert school name here)." Maybe it's your research or volunteerism. Just make sure you can back it up.
And of course, "I can guarantee you I will become a fantastic doctor and represent your school well" would be an excellent response!
