Why so few applying/going to Minnesota?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I definitely think that Minnesota is a great school of public health- however i didn't apply there because of 1) location 2) weather 3) I don't see myself living in that area post-graduation. From what I know, Minnesota has a great alumni network.

I applied to schools in which I could see myself living in that area post-graduation 5+ years.

I've accepted to UNC, Emory, VCU, and USC

I second the same reasons. Though I applied and I currently live in Wisconsin. If I am accepted by another school with 80% of Minnesota will offer me, I might not go to Minnesota

I applied to the MPH in Community Health Education, still waiting for a decision...

dreamer40 - I know they had a record number of apps in the CHE program, and they put some people on the wait list. I think they will be making final decisions soon.

Because It's In Minnesota

Location (I don't know anyone there) and deadline (early in the game, before I had a clear sense of where I wanted to go). I almost applied, but the night before the deadline decided I just couldn't work up the motivation to finish the application and pay the fee, since I knew I didn't really want to move there. It seems like a great school though!

It seems like so many people are opposed to the location! That's really too bad... Minneapolis/St. Paul is a great place to live!

I ended up choosing minnesota! They came through and offered me a dean's scholarship (not a lot, but with the great TA/RA befifits I think I can squeeze by without any debt). I guess it helps that I cross-country ski for the winters. Also, everyone I have talked to says that Minneapolis is a great city and pretty affordable compared to other places I have lived (seattle, San Fran). Can't wait to meet everyone in september.
