Why so many above 30 scores?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's a hopelessly skewed sample. Mostly, it's the proud who post their result (myself included). Do not fret, the mean will be what it always is.

A lot of factors invovled, but I would put a lot of it on the fact that the people saying their scores are people proud of their scores. I think the SDN factor plays a small role as well.

i agree with liver; DO NOT SWEAT THE SCORES POSTED ON SDN!! You all know the averages; keep focused.

If I remember right, the August score thread had a mean of 32 and change, and two people posted 44's. Congrats everyone, and good luck with applications!

Don't forget that someone who got a 68V or whatever is more likely to be stoked and post the night the scores come out on SDN. Where as someone who got a 24 probably will not even want to think about the test for a few days, much less post said score up.

SDN is not indicative of the real applicant population, and like others have said, it makes sense that people who are happy with their scores are more likely to post.

Don't fret! There is no use comparing yourself to others. You are your own person and you have strengths that are unique. 🙂

Dishonesty runs rampant among premeds. However, all deeds will eventually have to be reconciled.

It's true, only people who did well and are proud/pumped/excited are going to post their scores. I did well, and I did post my score. If I hadn't done well, I probably would not have.

Seriously, even though I did well, I feel more and more like the MCAT is only a small part of someone's application. I have a high MCAT... but I don't feel any different, the things that make me want to be a physician haven't changed, the person that I am hasn't changed, my life experience is the same, and my motivation is the same as before. The only difference now is this number attached to my application.

So don't fret. It was posted before, but it bears repeating. You know what the averages are, so keep them in mind.

Best of luck,
S

I'm a retaker and I scored +3 points...

Sorry.. I don't really feel comfortable divulging my score... but those additional 3 points put me at the lower-to-lowest end of competitive for allopathic schools!

lol.. the "#1 gunner" thing next to my name is more indicative of my GPA and personal nature than this god-forsaken test!!...point being that there are a lot of things that make a competitive applicant... we're not all perfect, but we'll all get there in the end if we keep up the work and have some bright aspects on our apps
