I'm just curious how others justify going to UOP with such high cost of attendance and living expenses?

I know it is only 3 years and a very nice school - but does that justify the debt load that one will incur by attending?

Seriously, check their website or do a search on these boards. If you don't like what you see, withdraw your app/don't apply.

Note: I hope you aren't trying to ask us to answer one of your interview questions for you.

I'll give you my reasons:

1. Three year curriculum: no dental school has been able to duplicate it yet.

2. Humanistic approach to education: I would explain, but I want you to do your research or figure it out when/if you interview.

3. Competency-based evaluations: same as #2

4. Location: Close to home, great city, great neighborhood

5. Clinical excellence: You will NEVER run out of patients there. Also because they only have two graduate programs, you are clinically very prepared. So instead of endo going to the endo dept, you get it.

6. UoP Pride/alumni base: 40% of the alumni gave back last year. What does that tell you? That they love and appreciate their school. Ivy league schools are happy if they hit 25-30%.

7. Business management: you have a whole quarter about how to manage your practice by a real consulting firm...you even write a proposal for your business many students end up using.

8. Presenations: One of their admissions staff gave presentations to my undergrad and I went all years and was very impressed each time.

9. Enthusiasm/happiness of staff, faculty, and students: Seriously, I cannot believe how happy everyone is there. The environment and is uplifting and students are so much more happy to be there than other schools I have visited.

There's more reasons, I just can't think of them on the top of my head. I make a list for all the schools I interview at afterwards so I can evaluate where and why I want to go to each school.

I heard nothing but great things about UoP. The area and location is amazing, the school is top notch, and for you 24/7 non stop workers the program is 3 years.

If I wanted to go to school in Cali it would be my top choice but I only applied to UCLA. I'm thinking about dropping an application to UoP.

I decided to add UoP to my list after I missed the UCSF deadline haha.. I want to visit SF and have heard great things about UoP so it made sense to me to add it to my list.

It's a very nice location and great dental school from all I have seen and heard. It's also obvious that their people are loyal and believe in the school, because UoP students always seem to be the quickest to jab back at any criticism made about the place on these forums.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's one of the healthier programs out there. It's just that 13-hour days would be hell on my bowling schedule.
