Why XXXX School? our Response

Ok, so i was wondering what do you say when the school says Why_____ (name of school)

Like i want to go to Nova, because i've heard that's its a great program, and Fl is simply awesome but somehow i don't think that'll be a good answer.

What are they looking for?

ok, bc my plan is just to be completely honest, and if they like me then it will be a good fit for me and my tastes and my personality.

i just wasn't sure if they want you to reference how great their program is compared to school B, because i figured that all dental school programs are all about equal and are all very good.

I was asked this very question in my interview 2 years ago -- I am a Texas resident so they wanted to know why I applied out of state with 3 good schools in Texas, and why Nova -- I said that I have grown up vacationing in parts of Florida and the southeast United States, and know it could be somewhere I could potentially see myself living, practicing, raising a family, if I am accepted -- and I was accepted, but I ultimately chose to stay in state for obvious reasons (i.e. cost of attendance).

haha, you have weeks to research the schools, FL, and everything. Type it out on Word and tweak it and try to memorize it so it flows well. I had to interview for the pre health committee with 8 professors all at the same time, all with PhD's and what not, but I googled possible interivew questions and good answers, so I just made a word document and rehearsed by myself, in the shower, with a friend, while driving, while sleeping lol you get the idea. They said of the 35 prehealth students, I was the best interviewee. Good luck man!

Yeah probably not a good idea, haha... besides, they ended up asking me questions about where I had visited etc, and one of my interviewers had been there and asked me if I knew about a particular restaurant at a place I had visited, so they might be able to catch you if you are lying.

But just be yourself and be completely honest. Don't try to think of something they want to hear -- a lot of people will ask "why our school" and many will say things about the sim lab, research, community clinic rotations, etc... and well, a lot of that isn't unique -- a lot of schools have these things and others.

I think you should just tell them the truth as to why you applied there. Maybe you have some family that attended the school or its near where you live and you want to stay there and give back to the community or its a top notch program that will best prepare you...
