The baggage fees would have amounted to 20 percent of the ticket prices. I’m sure we’ve all snuck popcorn into a movie theatre, put soda in a water cup, brought food into Disney World, alcohol onto a cruise etc.
Disney allows you to bring in food. I have literally never done any of the rest of those.

Heads up that a lot of schools will block these shenanigans. I tried to increase my loans last year and there was a whole auditing process where I had to prove I was going to be spending all the over-budget loans on acceptable purchases (like new laptop, additional travel, or USMLE fees).

Pulling out tens of thousands extra to sit in a bank as a future home down payment, or investing, would be completely impossible.

Putting soda in a water cup is legitimately stealing. And frankly one of the worst ways to steal IMO because you are taking advantage of a benefit that a restaurant is already providing without receiving anything in return.

You know like in Les Miserables—How the bishop lets Val Jean stay with him, and then VJ steals the silver? And he reflects that not only did he steal, but he took advantage of the bishop’s generosity to do so—which makes it even worse.

You are so moral. May we all bow in your presence. I'm gonna go ahead and say there are a lot worse ways to steal than putting soda in a small cup meant for water when you're at a multi-million dollar food chain but okay

Ahh but you are missing the point. It’s not that the action itself is so bad, it’s the attitude surrounding the action. Doing something bad and feeling sorry about it is one thing, doing something bad and feeling pride is—well, I guess you tell me since it is apparently your bag, baby. (-Austin Danger Powers)

Pretty large jump to label me as immoral and feeling pride for doing 'bad things'. Love me the culture nowadays to immediately label anyone who disagrees with you as a terrible person. Your premise is ridiculous and exaggerated and I pointed it out

Absolutely correct that if you ask for more $$ than the amount approved in your financial award letter, you will need to provide extra documentation. But in my situation, I don't ask for more than what is awarded in the letter. I only use the amount I am refunded after tuition and fees are taken out and put that in the market rather than sitting in a savings account. My goal is to cash out the capital gains for residency related expenses in 4th/post graduation so that I do not have to take out more loans to finance these expenses.

And I reiterate once again that those without experience/background in the market should not do this.

Uhh, either you support the sentiment expressed earlier in the thread (it is nbd to steal) or you are against it. You gotta pick one.

Not really. This is what I’m talking about with the absolutism. I’m pointing out how ridiculous it is that you said putting soda in a water cup is the worst way to steal. Stealing = bad obviously. Didn’t think I’d have to actually point that out. But this isn’t a useful conversation so have a nice absolute moral life!

I guess this is hard for some people to grasp. It is one of the worst ways, because the opportunity to steal stems from the good will of the wronged party. Has nothing to do with water or soda or any other liquid--it is the taking advantage of good will that makes it particularly bad. But agreed, no use discussing something with someone who doesn't understand. Peace!
