Will a 5 in VR mean an automatic rejection?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
it's pretty hard for international students to get into med schools, so I've heard from all my int'l friends applying/have applied with stellar stats and such. A 30 is a solid score, but that five is extremely low, especially when paired with that L. I'd say retake the MCATs.

I had a friend that got in with a 13PS, 13BS, and 5VR, with a 3.89 QPA.

Of course, he went to Rosalind Franklin (got into Drexel).

But he applied really really early and stayed on top of his apps.

Gotta be the most lopsided 30 I've ever seen.

I'd say that you are toast, but why not try it for giggles if nothing else. Report back to the class.

Some schools just look at the composite (i.e. 30 in your case) rather than the subsets... I'd figure out which schools those are and apply there.

My spoken english is fine. anyways, i don't see how my spoken english can be related to VR (or WS).

here is how i see it - if you go to an interview and speak english very well, i think they might be a little forgiving. i think their concern is that a 5 means you basically suck at reading and comprehending english which might mean you have trouble communicating = a huge problem for your patients.

bottom line, you're a freaking smart person so use that intelligence to be strategic with the admissions process and i think you can get it. but keep in mind it is late in the process...

This test is not designed for south indian ppl 😀

but ya, you pretty much toast my friend. Like the one of the posters said, applying really really early you might have had a chance...but right now you have NO chance whatsoever (I hate to say this, but it is the truth). Your GPA + MCAT verbal scores will just screen you out in most schools...Take the MCAT again and apply really early next season.

That verbal and writing score will earn you a rejection at pratically all of the schools you'll be applying to. With your GPA, I just don't see you getting any interviews. I think your time and money would be much more well spent retaking the MCAT than applying with those stats.

I'm in a similar situation:

PS- 13
BS- 13
V- 7
WS- Q

man... what does this mean... just wierded me out

I don't think that's so bad...7's low but not incredibly low. Your good score on writing helps make up for it. If you have a decent GPA then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hey inside_edition dont feel bad because a lot of people have weird distributions. VR is not reading comprehension it is VERBAL REASONING.

I just hope that the adcoms think like that. I even searched through mdapps and no one has such an unbalanced score.

I had a good GPA (3.90 engineering/BCPM), an unbalanced score (+5 between highest and lowest section), with a good overall score (33), went to top undergrad. I got rejections from the schools I applied to (20/24). As you are an international student, you have to even more competitive than the average applicant since most schools only reserve a few (or none at all) for internationals. Since you are so late in the process, your odds are not looking good.

NEVER NEVER GIVE UP. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING! 5 VR is not the best score, but ur hard work shows in the score. what's the worst thing will happen? --->you will just lost some application fee.
