I finally just got my last letter of recommendation in to the pre medical committee at my school and now I am waiting to get an interview for the committee letter. However, they told me that there is a 6 - 8 week waiting period. So I won't even get my interview for the letter until mid August, do you guys think that this will hurt me significantly? Should I just wait an extra year and improve my application? Thanks for all the help guys

i dont think it will be a problem, but ive never applied. i think most committee lors go out mid to late august anyways, so depending on the turn around, you should be ok.

You're out of the "early" group if you're waiting to get letters turned mid August. You're not doomed or anything, but you'd better have the rest of your application finished before then. Some schools will be offering interview invites by then.

you might want to ask your committee how long it takes to compose a letter.

I had an interview w/ my committee in late july, but they didn't send the letter until mid-oct.

holy crap!!! 2.5 months?!

wow.. thanks for the heads up i will definitely look into that

It boggles my mind that some of these committees don't do everything in their power to boost the odds of their students applying successfully. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

my committee used to interview in january and had artificial deadlines of everything by late april/may

going to a private school wasnt worth it though

Yup --spent many sleepless nights fretting over my applications, which were all complete... if only I had the LOR.

Needless to said, because I considered myself an average applicant, having a late completion date was not to my advantage at all.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

Do you have to have a committee letter? Do you have other letters that you could substitute? Could you just send that as an additional letter later?

It's really okay that your committee letter isnt sent til August, September or October. Most medschool begin interviews in September and the first 3-6 weeks medschools are only interviewing and deciding on Early Decision Applicants so its not like you are getting behind or late in the game. Pre med comittee know this and that's why they are in a rush to get every letter finished ad submit my the end of July.

As long as you submit you AMCAS early and have already completed the secondary by the time your letters arrive, then its not a big deal that the letters arent sent in the fall. Stop freaking out about everything little thing.
