Hello everyone,

I know everyone asks this question--Will I get in?. What do you think I haven't taken the DAT yet but will be taking it on Oct. 17th.
I attend East Carolina University and my major is Neuroscience. I am part of like Tribeta, Chemistry Club, Neuroscience club, East Carolina University Ambassador (which takes a lot of time). I volunteer at an elementary school as a tutor and as a mentor. I also volunteer at a hospital as a patient transporter and receptionist. I have done two research--one of which was a pilot study for my senior thesis. I was premed that switched to pre-dental last semester. I originally wanted to be a neurosurgeon but I don't want a hectic life and don't want the responsibility of someone's life in my hands. My application should be out by Sept. 30th-or earlier. Missing anything else?

GPA: 3.918
DAT: the way my practice exams look: i am looking at making a 16.

School:
Arizona School of Dent.
Case Western
Marquette University (WI)
Temple University (PA)
University of Penn.
University of Pitts.
UNC
University of Louisville
University of Kentucky
University of Connecticut
University Alabama

Thank you,

With your GPA as high as it is and you experience in the sciences, you should expect to score higher than 16. Keep in mind practice tests are usually harder than the real thing. I would say as long as you scored at LEAST 18's across the board you'd have a great chance.

ill point out the good and bad in your application.

the good, obviously the gpa and you are very involved. i think that gpa is most often weighted in the most.

the bad, if you get a 16 on your DAT you will really lower your chances. aim for at least a 17, which is average, but obviously higher is better, especially bc you are not applying early.

also, do you have any dental experience? you don't need much (i had 2 days of shadowing) but the more you have, the more likely they will believe you are interested in dentistry. i suggest shadowing a couple afternoons or saturday mornings and throwing that on your application before submitting it if you havent already. study for the DAT, if you dont have the kaplan book, buy it and go through it quickly. dont get too hung up on the practice exams, just learn the material and use them for guidance. also, make sure your letters of rec. are ready-id suggest sending them directly to the schools rather than thru aadsas bc that might hang up your application. good luck!!

I shadowed a general practitioner and dental lab technicians during spring break and then during the summer I shadowed the same dentist. I had a total of 60 hrs including spring break and summer. By the way thnx, its great motivation for studying--as I have been studying.

Your GPA and extracurriculars are fantastic, but you'll probably need beter than a 16 DAT. You should be able to do better with your high GPA, just focus hard on studying the next few weeks. Also, GET YOUR APPLICATION SUBMITTED ASAP! Get it in this week if you can. Fill everything out and get your transcripts submitted. Your LORs and DAT do not need to be done before applying and it takes a good 6 weeks for AADSAS to process the application. Also, if you don't have any study aids for the DAT, I suggest picking up a copy of the Kaplan blue book or the Top Score DAT cd to help you focus your studying over the next few weeks. Good luck.
