what are my chances...I have 3.53 cgpa, 3.51 sgpa, and 30N MCAT (10,10,10). I havent done any ecs but I was wondering if I should even bother since my gpa and mcat are so high for do schools. I absolutely do not feel like volunteering or being a CNA or EMT-B or any of that nonsense (hate it!!!!). due to my high stats, will schools even care that I have no ec? I will be happy with any do school. how many schools should I apply to? thank you

Have you done any shadowing? Do you have a LOR from a DO? Your numbers are almost identical to mine when I was applying, but I had some extracurriculars, shadowing, and a LOR of rec from a DO as well though. I got to go to my number 1 choice. Your numbers are definitely good, and even without the above, you will almost definitely get in somewhere unless you bomb the interview. I'd say apply to as many as you'd be happy going to/can afford.
 
your stats are not high, they are average. And of course they would care that you have no ECs... What kind of question is that. So many people have your stats and better and do plenty of ECs which is what makes people with the same stats stand apart from one another... Reality check, go out and do something besides school. Good luck

They are above average. Average is 3.46/27. But I do agree with you that high numbers alone are not enough.

You have to have at least 100 volunteering hours and some shadowing (at least 30 hours). Then your stats will be competitive for all DO schools. However, if you are working in a healthcare setting, that might compensate the volunteering hours IMO.

Don't bother with ECs and any of that nonsense. As you know, DO schools routinely waive everything, by that I mean everything including criminal checks, for applicants with your stratospheric stats.

Yeah, the probability of troll is extremely high.
 
You're stats aren't that high for any med school.
 
No ECs = No Chance.

That being said you've got a good shot if you spend the next year doing ECs and research for MD.

Nope, you are clearly too good for DO, MD, DPT, PD, DMD, etc. Since you don't want to do any of that "clinical" jazz, and are really looking to match into ROADs, you should apply for your Janitorial Doctorate. All you need is some custodial shadowing and you could easily match into Rinsing or if you're really good you could match into Decontaminating.

(If this is real, get clinical experience and shadowing and you will be good. As it stands, I doubt you would be accepted outright. Believe it or not, but many DO schools would rather have a 28 MCAT with an average GPA and good clinical experience than a 30 MCAT with an average GPA and no clinical experience. They usually have a lot of the former applicants.)

This is nonsense. I had maybe like 30 volunteering hours and 20 shadowing. It is all about how you present yourself.

i know MD schools take EC's very seriously and get tons better applicants, but i wasnt sure about do. since DO schools take lots of people with low stats, I figured my higher stats would impress them to the point that ec's would be irrelevant. I mean since my stats are much higher than most DO students (average mcat at some schools like 25) and lots of people with mid 20s mcat and meh gpa get in, I figured maybe the do adcoms would be really impressed with my gpa/mcat and not care...I mean not many do students have my stats, most are below or much below mine.

My roommate from college got in last cycle to 3 DO schools with a 3.2/30 and with zero extra curriculars. He matriculated to midwestern in arizona.

He's white.

You've probably got a good chance. Why not apply to some MD schools too?

Jeez and I'm over here crapping my pants with having one C and a 3.7 gpa even though I am an Arizona resident. Nice to know we have it easy.....
 
Obviously, you can get interviews with those stats, but it's no guarantee since you have no volunteering or ECs. You should consider volunteering somewhere during the summer with the chance that you may have to update schools on what you're doing if you don't hear back from any through the fall. At the very least do some kind of EC.

I wouldn't be too afraid if I were you. Not unless I had like a 23 mcat or something. I doubt you'd score that low with such an impressive gpa anyway.

No offense, but I find your story a bit hard to believe. I myself have well above his MCAT and tons of ECs, am OOS, a PS that got me many DO and a few MD interviews, and I was placed on pre-interview hold. And I know many people with the same MCAT, slightly higher GPAs, with ECs that are in the same position. If I/we couldn't even land an ii from AZCOM, I doubt someone got in without a shred of ECs.

He's probably BSing you. Bragging about how he got in with "no" ECs. You're telling me he never had a job? A hobby? Wasn't part of a club in college? Yeah all that sounds unrealistic. I don't think I could find one person I know that managed to get through 4 years without even just one of those. Its one thing to not be an EMT/hospital volunteer, but to not do anything, that's not realistic.

No club, No job throughout college, after college he worked part-time as a video editor I believe, no research, maybe like 30 hours of volunteering at the ER tops. I lived in the same dorm room with him for a year, and was in the apartment next to his the year after. I was also in all of his classes. There was maybe a year in between the time of his application cycle and when he graduated that I wasn't in touch with him.

When I said zero ECs, I meant anything substantial. Anything that would really be meaningful to discuss in an interview. I talked to him afterwards and he said that he really didn't have anything to offer in the EC department.

He didn't get any MD interviews, but he got 6 DO interviews and 3 acceptances.

He comes off as a very smart guy when you speak to him, and he is really intelligent. His only problem, I think, was his interesting in video games. This was also my problem.

OK, fair enough, that makes a bit more sense. He has some ECs, but nothing particularly strong. You'd be surprised though, some people can make a lot out of only 30 hours in an emergency room and video editing job. As long as he could describe it well, I'm sure he could convince people it was a meaningful experience for him.

I may have a lot of ECs, but some that affected how I think on a normal basis were only 30-50 hours. 30 hours out of your comfort zone with people in extremely dire situations really can affect you.

They're true, the application cycle is a nightmare (mainly the waiting). That being said, in the end you'll probably get in somewhere 🙂. Don't worry too much though, I know tons of people that didn't get in their first cycle, but eventually got in their 2nd or 3rd with some tweaking, and there's also the many people that get in off the waitlist in May/June/July.
