hi everyone,
its seems like no one knew the definitive answer to this question...
will i get secondaries if i check aug mcat box but already took the test?
or do they wait until after the new scores to send them out..

thanks!!!

You will get secondaries from some schools before the August scores come out, if you are an August MCATer that has previously taken the test.

DONT CHECK THE BOX IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. It says mark "no" if unsure, so I'd be "unsure". That way you'll be eligible to be reviewed for interviews before mid-October.

I agree with this... but only if your previous MCAT was decent..

You will get secondaries regardless from a lot of schools, but some schools will put you on hold, especially the schools that screen. So this all really depends on your April score. If you score decently and are still taking the MCAT you may want to send a letter to the schools saying you are taking the August MCAT.

I for one, since I am a reapplicant will be submitting early regardless. If I do take the August MCAT, I will just forward my scores to the schools that I am still applying to. Good luck.

I would wait till your April scores to arrive to submit your app. That way you will have a better idea of where you stand.

so lets say i already have a decent score but not very competitive for some upper schools...is it possible that i can start working on my application, submit it, have the mcat retaking question marked no, and still plan on taking it in august in case i make better scores?? i know most schools will give out secondaries no matter what ur score is, but will u get an interview, and what should u put on ur secondaries??what if u do get a better score? u cant go back and change the secondaries??or u can wait and not fill out the secondaries untill u get the august mcats???i really dont know what to do...i kinda hate retaking the mcat, but if it wont hurt my application but it might just improve it, than maybe its worth it..what u guys think??

If you click "Yes" for the planning on taking the August MCAT, will secondaries still come? I want to know this for my friends. Is there anyway to click the "yes" button for the August MCAT, submitt your AMCAS app really early like June 15, receive secondaries, mail secondaries out, and have the only thing that the med schools are waiting for be the actual scores?

yes. That's exactly what I did this past cycle.

Yes, out of 24 schools I applied to, 5 or 6 didn't. The UCs (except UCSF), Loyola, and Wake Forest waited for scores before sending a secondary. I didn't have ANY mcat scores, though. Most schools nowadays send secs to everyone to collect the additional fee. 🙁

I applied this past cycle..got a 28 on the April MCAT and still applied in June and marked the box for taking the August MCAT. I received secondaries from all of the schools I applied to (OHSU, Loma Linda, USC-Keck, Albert Einstein). Some of these schools screened (and still liked me despite the less than stellar score) and other schools gave out seocndaries to everyone. However, I had my secondaries in by the beginning of August and did not hear anything for several months. So the schools most likely waited for my August MCAT scores to show up before really looking at my completed application/file. This does mean that you would be at a disadvantage for interviews. However, I interviewed at my top choice (OHSU) in March and I got in. So it definately depends on the school, for how much of a disadvantage it is.
