Will IR eventually break away?

Does anyone think that IR will eventually break away from regular rads and become its own specialty. Isn't that what happened to Rad Onc? It doesn't seem to be that popular of a fellowship since it is an emerging field, and the future is not so certain. I read somewhere that it could break of on its own and be called "interventional medicine" which would be more clinical. I really like this field, and just wanted to see what you guys thought.
