Hey all,

So I'm not 100% sure on the retaking class system for DO programs. I took an A&P class at a university for 4 credits and want to retake it but only have the option of taking it at a community college. The CC class also has it listed with matching description and 4 credits for lecture and lab--pretty much identical to the university's. However, I found it odd that it was the only class I looked at on my old university's transfer equivalency that did NOT transfer the CC credit to the lecture AND lab--it said that the CC 4 credit class would only transfer as the lecture to the university. However, classes like Physics, Chem, and O-Chem all showed up transferred from the CC as lecture and lab together. So I know the three of them are good to go, but what about the A&P...

Is it just my school being funky or do you think AACOMAS would not accept it as a replacement if my school didn't seem to allow it to completely transfer?

Best bet, shoot AACOMAS an email.

With that said, retakes have been discussed to death and there are posts all over the forum about the topic. I posted an official response from AACOMAS the other day regarding retakes.

My guess is that it may have been an A&P course designed for allied health majors and that's why the university is not "recognizing" it on the transfer equivalency guide.

Around here (Texas) we have two types of A&P sequences, one for science majors and one for allied health majors.

I can't guarantee a replacement, but I'd be willing to bet it would be fine. Again, just ask AACOMAS.

Thanks so much! I did email them and they responded to another question I had but not directly to that one, and then I re-emailed them and got an email back but it was blank...so...yeah...haha.

I've searched and searched for an answer on other posts and it seems as though it should be okay since the credits are equal and the course descriptions are almost word for word...it's just kind of a weird situation.

I appreciate your help!

Yeah they aren't too direct with their responses. I've emailed them multiple times regarding different retakes...

They seem to be fairly lenient though.

One course, a Management course, I am about to retake at a different school is fairly similar to the original, but it doesn't have the same course title and the course description isn't all that exact either, but I sent them both course titles and descriptions and they said it "should be fine". So, guess I'll find out when it's application time...

Hey All!

I took a BISC class during my undergrad in which I got a "D." It was called "The History of Life." I have since moved and have received a Masters degree, and I need to take that class locally, but I haven't been able to find that exact same course anywhere else. Do you think it would be plausible to find something with a similar course description and have it be a valid replacement? If so, how would I go about letting AACOMAS know that it was my intention to replace class A with class B, given that they don't match in course name or number?

Thanks!

The particular reasons your school doesn't accept the transfer units doesn't affect aacomas rules. If it is the same course and units, it will replace.
