Hello,
Here is my situation. I have a 3.0, which is the border line I know. I have done 150 hours of shadowing. I plan to take the GRE by the end of summer and will most likely get a high score. However, I have 3 courses with a C- and I plan to retake them all next year. But the application is due by october for some P.T. programs. Will they not see the improved gpa after these retakes? Or do they only see the gpa the day of the application?
The reason i ask is because I do not know if I should retake at least one course during summer session too even though it would cost $1.2k yikes! Or should i just apply to pt schools with later deadlines. I feel like after my retakes and classes taken my senior year I can improve my gpa to at least 3.3-3.4. Any thoughts? I will be talking to counselors and schools just to make sure.
Best,
Daniel P.

If a school has an Oct deadline, they will only see your GPA the day of application (theoretically). But, it really depends on when schools review the applications. For example, school A and B both have Oct deadlines. School A is rolling admissions and starts handing out interviews in November....they will use your initial GPA. But maybe school B doesn't actually sit down and review applications until January. In that case, they would see improved grades from academic update. This all depends on when they pull the applications to review them.

The big issue I see is that at the time of application (October), it sounds like you might not be meeting minimum admission standards at most schools (3 C-s) and you didn't mention your pre req GPA. If you don't meet the minimum requirements at the time of application, you don't meet the requirements and will generally be automatically rejected.

It depends on the school and their application process. As soon as you finish the classes, though, send them an updated transcript ASAP. Schools typically update your GPA once they receive a new transcript.

But again, not true with all schools. So you definitely need to call and ask very specific questions. If the school only takes directly from PTCAS, you will be at a disadvantage.
