Will some schools not accept the old mcats in the 2015 cycle?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The simple fact that the new mcat will only be administered for 1-2 months before the application cycle starts makes it very unlikely they won't accept the old one.

As I prepare to take the 2014 MCAT and apply next cycle, I'm starting to worry about this.

All with accept it. It would be ridiculous not to given that it's still being administered in Jan 2015.

Then don't apply to Indiana University if you're taking the MCAT before Spring 2015.

According to the AAMC, it is up to the individual schools to decide what to do in regards to which MCAT they will accept. Most schools will be accepting the old MCAT in the next cycle (2015-2016). Perhaps IU will change their tune when they realize that the only people who can apply to their school in 2015-2016 are those who took the MCAT within a couple month window.

They're likely a rare exception for next year's cycle. That'll be incredibly difficult to pull off in a reasonable time for applicants to Indiana

I have an email into IU to clarify. Hopefully they will respond. I specifically asked if they would accept scores from the January 2015 MCAT or if they had to be from the new MCAT.

The January 2015 MCAT is the old MCAT. Their website states that they will not accept the old MCAT for the entering Class of 2016.

I know what the note says, but the sentence before it mentions accepting MCAT from the last two years. It is confusing, so I am asking for clarification.

Does anyone think it's likely the old MCAT will be accepted for those entering in 2017? I'm a rising junior who's planning to take the MCAT in August and also possibly taking a gap year. But if one school already says they won't take the old MCAT for the entering class of 2016, I'm worried...

I would think that 2017 is a stretch. Although, they say that the mcat is valid for 3 years, if some schools don't want to accept the old test for 2016 admission, I would imagine the number of those non-accepting schools is going to be even higher for 2017.

Hi there! Because of the whole IU scare, I've started a spreadsheet within the premed group I help advise for UC kids. We're trying to populate it with hard confirms from schools so that people know whether or not they should look at taking MCAT now or wait for the new one to come out. Figured you all would benefit from this, and if people could also help populate it by giving hard answers, that would be great.
