I’m back on board too. Getting the vaccine right is so much more important than HCQ EUA and convalescent plasma (though his presser def was embarrassing). The vaccine is where it counts, and he did the public a great service by doing an end run around the corrupt Trump suits.

i agree. Extremely doubtful any of his cronies stick around. Fauci will stay around and has been there for decades. A rad onc will never be allowed near that job with a 20 ft pole

Eh, a lot of his 'redemption' tour was after the scatching commentary by Eric Topol. They have had discussions since then (posted here I believe?) about how Hahn is transitioning away from being the president's talking head (thus leading to the strife between him and Trump).

I wouldn't be surprised if he is kept on if Biden wins.

Agree. Without knowing what's going on behind the scenes at the FDA, I don't hear any reporting of red flags. With COVID blowing up everywhere and the ongoing work to get a safe and effective vaccine approved ASAP, it might be wise for Biden to avoid bringing in a new face who isn't caught up to speed. If Hahn is going to go, it may be after COVID is better under control -maybe by that time he has redeemed himself.

On a personal note, political differences aside, I have had a chance to meet and talk with Hahn a few times and he seemed like a very decent guy. He offered career guidance and help when he really didn't need to... so I am hoping that his first months in the Trump adminstration isn't the headline of his career.

Will be interesting. Politically I imagine you have 2 options
1. Clean house and say covid out of control so we need a different team. Problem with that is you now own the outcome

2. Keep some (not all) and then you have a scapegoat if control of covid doesn’t go as planned

House will definitely be cleaned/wiped at some point. It is similar to when you put a bunch of high concentration foggers throughout the house to get rid of a bad pestilence. The foggers have got to go on at some point, followed by some really deep cleaning in suits, ebola style. The people will demand this! I guarantee it folks!

I have the feeling Biden administration will replace Hahn in Feb-March 2021.
The guy is incompetent, why keep him? To kill more Americans?
If I were Biden, I will start looking for a replacement now, and institute it at the "correct" time.

Nice guy or not, the guy is incompetent.
He is a disgrace to our specialty and to the country.
Soon or later, once Biden's administration is in, he will apply for a fellowship position, maybe brachy fellowship or pediatric fellowship....

Cannot believe that this guy stuck it out. Maybe felt that he had to, to help with vaccine rollout, but he was just trolled by POTUS relentlessly. And now, the stench will forever permeate. Sounds like he has upper management writtern all over him!

Great article. It says Steve Hahn was so desirous to be liked that it amounted to a “Shakespearean flaw.” A radiation oncologist not wanting to piss anyone off and be well liked? Inconceivable. But poor Steve. Still a good guy (hope you’re reading this SH!). Realized too late he was working in a job as foul as Vulcan’s stithy.

As far as I can see, his academic career is done. Any place that hires him in the future is a stupid place.
It is a stain that never goes away.

It is one thing to make one mistake such as poor GTV/CTV/PTV coverage and the pt dies from uncontrolled cancer, that is n = 1.

It is another thing to go along with the idiot-in-chief and failed to correct DJT when appropriate, helping killing thousands of American lives! If an MD kills 1,000 patients, you can guarantee that the licensing board will revoke his/her medical license.

I wish him luck with an MBA degree at Trump University...

Paul Alexander, a former assistant professor at McMaster University in Canada who specialises in health research methods, wrote in an email to Stephen Hahn, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), that the research lent support to a role for hydroxychloroquine. The FDA authorised the antimalarial on an emergency basis last April under pressure from Trump, but revoked this in June, citing the drug’s “known risks” and stating that it was “no longer reasonable to believe” that it was effective against covid-19.
