Hi friends,

As far as now new rule, you cannot give NBDE once again if u have passed it..

So now the new batch from this year's application will come majority of the students who will have given NBDE in only one shot...

Do u think the overall percentage of scoring in NBDE will go down??

I mean certainly the applications will be mixed with the ppl who gave nbde 2 3 times and did not got admission and again applying this year... but i think majority of the ppl will be of one shot only..

since its like u can give only one time NBDE .. do u guys think that the dental schools will be liberal in consideration of NBDE scores?

certainly it depends on the overall performance of all students.. but if anyone has got a overall view of this thing ..can someone throw some light on it?

i think the dental schools will be liberal..

what u guys think? what will be the overall performance of the students with new rule?

i think the ratio will certainly go down.

Ideally speaking, the schools SHOULD be liberal....THe application pool which will apply for the coming cycle will have a mix of those who have given NBDE once and those who have given it 2/3 times..I think it will be 50% each because I know of so many people who rushed and gave their exam before dec 2009 just so that they could apply for the exam again and give it one more try this year...
Speaking without any biases, they SHOULD consider those with a relatively lower score on the first attempt too...Only very few people get a high score in their first attempt... But , as you must have noticed there are too many SHOULDS in this reply and they cannot be changed to "they WILL" until n unless the application begin and acceptancies and admissions begin to happen.

SO good luck to all of us and wish for the best to happen !!!

yes.. thats the thing.. i mean there should be some priority for those ppl who gave the exam in one attempt.

i doubt but NBDE part 1 mark sheet must have mentioned the number of attempts anyone must have given.

Yes, they don't show the attempts. But seriously, you can score high from the first attempt as well. Don't get too insecure about things like SHOULDS and what others do. The whole application is what matters. Cheer up. Results over 85 gets people in school. I know some people who got in with 82 and 84, so it's all about the whole package, not just numbers.

Welcome. But seriously, the POWER is in your hands. Sit and study real hard and you'd make it. I never thought that it is wise to rush things just to have another shot at them again later on. That being said - just make sure you are ready for your exam (you can always postpone it for a bit). Don't rush yourself into the exam room, just to find that this or that topic is not really clear to you. So review all the topics that are specifically hard/challanging for you and stop panicking. I am from the panicking types and I know that it is hard, but it's contraproductive, you know what I mean? 🙂 Good luck!:luck:

thanks buddy that was calming.. 🙂

exactly thts what i was.. i mean i dont know i m taking exam on 1st week of june.. and i mean i havent finished ASDA papers once. Just thinking roughly 40 days.. remaining.. i mean i certainly want to postpone a bit may be a week atleast but than i think that i will be late for the application and looking at this new rules make me more tensed.... 🙁

40days is a lot of time! Come on! That's the last minute pressure talking to you. Of course you can do all the tests till then. Read the new dental decks for sure. They are a must. Also the released questions. If you had studied hard, then you will simply need to adjust your speed towards the timeframe the test is held in. Also don't rush the exam because of the application cycle. If you do the exam by the end of June, you will make the deadlines for most programs even after you add the 1month for waiting for your result.

bombshell, thanks a ton. ur words are inspiring and motivating..have u given the exams? if not, good luck for them !!

So people who got a score below 85 will never get accepted?
What about a score around 80-84?

I passed my NBDE I in my first time and NBDE II in my second.
Would that help?

I was aiming for something in mid 90s, and I got 90... So I was initially kind of happy then kind of disappointed of the fact that I changed some answers in the last moment *and of course, ironically i changed them from right to wrong". So think twice before changing an answer on the exam.

hey buddy.. how much u got in part 1??

thanks a lot for the inspiring words....👍👍:idea:

yeah same happened with me..i changed 15 questions from right to wrong..and i landed up on 87...so be really careful..if you have a doubt just follow your first initial instinct...

80-84 are good scores. I have friends who are in NYU with such scores 🙂 So it is just a matter of when you apply and of course luck, as it is a big part of any application cycle. So set your karma straight (if you believe in it, that is).
How did you do on the exams? Toefl? any experience? All of those things matter and esp the personal statement and how you present yourself on the interview.

hmm well.....
as far as i know- UIC doesnt need TOEFL scores ......dunno bout other skools..guess most o dem need toefl....

well......bout scoring 90> well...if it was tht easy..wel den everyone would be gettin 90....

but as far as the imp books are concerned---here they r...

kaplan review notes - i feel they r a great resource
first aid nbde or usmle......
dental decks r a must- i d say the latest ones.....
ASDA papers r like MANDATORY
gods blessing.

use whichever books u can...all tht matters is ur basic concept.....oh..wikipedia is gr8......

I will just apply that taking TOEFL can be done after the part 1 exam. That's what I did. While I was waiting for the result of my part 1, I took TOEFL. By the way, 90 is not that hard to achieve on TOEFL. You simply need a strategy. For example, I am good at listening and reading, so I tried to score best on those sections. Speaking section - oh, well, as soon as they hear accent the score goes down, so that's why it was important for me to score well on the previous sections. ANd as for writing - well, you do what you can there, and hope for the best. TOEFL is needed for schools if you have finished your dental education in a country in which English is not an official language. I think this even applies to citizens coming from other countries. Correct me if I am wrong. 😉 Good luck to you.:luck:
