Will They Put a Hold on App as I Retake a Class?

If I retake Organic Chemistry over the summer, will they put my application on hold until I finish? Or will they continue to verify the transcripts, etc. and the process and I can send in the grades as I get them.

I know there are probably people who are finishing up the last of the pre-reqs as they submit, so I'm wondering how this affects the application process?

Send in what transcripts you have. After you take the classes, send in your new transcript and AACOMAS will recalculate your GPA and send your new app to everybody.

i'm guess you're applying for 2011 cycle?

you dont need to have all your prereqs completed prior to application. you do however need them all completed (satisfactorily) prior to matriculation...which for you will be fall 2011.

i got accepted to a couple places and i hadnt had gen physics 2 yet... i'm taking it this semester and all i have to do is pass with a C, send in the transcript to the med school. done.

that said, adcom will probably like to see how well you did in that class so if your'e gonna dominate it this summer, send up your updated trascript (like scummie was saying).

They'll continue to verify everything without holding things up for you updated grades. Then they'll just update everything when you send them new transcripts.

I am in the same situation (re-taking courses this summer), but my AACOMAS application says I won't begin the verification process until my transcript is sent. (These courses are being re-taken at a new school, so I have no prior transcript to be sent).

It looks like I can still change items on my application, should I enter a transcript exemption for that school?

I am doing the exact same thing. I am retaking a course at a new university in August.

Thus, it says "1 of 2 transcripts recieved" (they have my one from my main school, and don't have the one for my school that I am taking the summer course at)

I was just verified recently.

So, the AACOMAS workers are apparently smart enough to realize that they do not need the transcript from the new school. And they will be begin verification as long as they have the transcript from your main school.

Also, I emailed them about this (before I was verified). They said not to worry...they realize that they don't need the second transcript yet.

Edit: Just make you listed the course at the new university properly. It should be listed as Repeat Not Yet Completed (RNY).

They may figure it out on there own, but I would just email them (they email back fairly quickly, within two days) to make sure they understood what you were trying to do.

And yes, Detox should be great whenever it finally comes out.

i'm in the exact same situation (c- in orgo2).. you gotta retake and get a c or better... you can still submit it and then resend in your updated transcripts when your new grade comes out.

Oh okay. The reason why I wanted to take it over this summer is because I will be starting a post-bac in september so I won't have time to retake orgo unless I take it next summer at which I feel like might be too late. I guess I should be happy that I only have to retake orgo and not any other classes!

ya it kinda sucks but oh well, it will boost your science gpa. i just looked at the info they released to schools and it says i have 3 credit defecit for orgo cuz it didn't list my c- under the required courses. it doesnt even say its in progress so hopefully med schools will realize im taking it now.

Ugh that sucks, but one day (hopefully soon) this will all be worth it. I guess orgo over the summer it is for me then! By the way, does it say you have a 3 credit deficit on your AACOMAS application itself? I applied in 2008 with the same grades I have now and I don't see anywhere on my AACOMAS application where it says I have a deficit due to my C-. Maybe you can call and ask AACOMAS? Perhaps you can also call the schools that you applied to and let them know that you are currently retaking orgo.

Oh that's frustrating! I haven't submitted my AACOMAS this year yet since I was still trying to figure out when to retake Orgo. Now I am debating on whether I should wait until I get my grades in August and then submit or just go ahead and list those classes as "in progress" and submit it right away.

After my experience last year (submitting late August, verified early September), I would definitely get your app in ASAP. I felt like the straggler b/c interviews were well over half scheduled.

Also, it sounds like AACOMAS and schools are savvy on getting grade updates. Turn it it I say.

Thanks for your advice, I think I will go ahead and submit it by the end of the week and just list my orgo classes as in progress. Good luck!

How did some of you get verified so fast? I submitted mine like June 3rd or something, and it still says "Current Status: Processing" and just "Submitted to AACOMAS" next to each school...

If you have your transcripts in in May they began verifying some people. Also, you submitted June 3rd so they've only had 2 full business days to verify you now. Give it time lol There was a weekend thrown in there ya know

I'm sure you will be verified by the end of the week and no worries, if you are verified by the end of June you will have your secondaries in and being looked at the same time as everyone being verified now. Schools won't even look at new applications until they are done with this cycle, which in some cases won't be until the first day of classes.
