I started a job at the hospital and the job title is patient safety attendant or simply called a sitter.
I get assigned to different rooms everyday (or same patient if they stay longer) and sit besides the patient. Most patients either have fall risk or suicidal risk. While I am there for 8 hours, I cannot do any “clinical” stuff, like measuring bp or changing their diaper. But I can help them reposition in the bed, call the nurse if they need anything, follow to the bathroom, and follow them if they are going to any labs or tests. If the nurses ask, I can help them to bring something or assist patients. Many patients often have psychic problem (commonly depression) so I spend the most time to talking to get them distracted from thinking about anything sad. So while I spend a lot of time with patients, I spend really less time with the physicians. Can this still considered as clinical experience for medical school admission?
