I would like to have an 'edit' feature to add my own notes to the content already included in the flash card apps.

App Choices:
1. Lange Pathology Flash Cards
2. Lange Pharmacology Flash Cards

I'd say a USMLE question bank (Step 1 and Step 2CK at least) that lets you study on the go. The key would be to have a strong bank of educational questions and detailed explanations. with a reasonable interface. Linking the above to a question bank that could be accessed offline would be even better.

I would like to be able to link between my notes and relevant sections of other sources (textbooks, ppts, etc).

App Choices:
1. Lange Pharmacology Flash Cards
2. First Aid for USMLE Step 1

A flexible flashcard program would be great. I second the idea of allowing edits to an existing flashcard set (like path/pharm). I use tons of already made flashcards that I write notes on the sides/corners of. I would LOVE to be able to do this on my iphone! No carrying around tons of flashcards!

App Choices
1. First Aid for USMLE Step 1
2. Lange Q&A for USMLE Step 1

I third the self-editable flash cards - add a desktop program for mac and windows that lets you do this while you are studying. I understand there are probably a million copyright issues, however, so I'm not holding my breath.

Although I'm not (yet) the target audience, I only used the following apps as a premed in my A&P and biochem classes, so I have to rank them 1 and 2:

1. Clemente's Anatomy
2. Lange Biochemistry & Genetics Flash Cards

I agree being able to edit flash cards or add a note section would be invaluable. Also, being able to share with friends during a study group (if you had edited & added notes to cards and wanted to share them with a friend who also has this app) would be a nice addition.

1. Lange Pathology Flash Cards
2. Lange Pharmacology Flash Cards

This may already be available and I just haven't seen it (I use the Pharm Flashcards), but an app that acts just like one of the question banks with MC questions and scoring and explanations would be awesome to have while on the go.

I've loved the flashcards...very helpful...but expensive. 🙂

Lange Q&A for USMLE Step 2 CK
Lange Pathology Flash Cards

An app that is linked with my text book. not so much page for page of a book, but the questions from chapters, images or other test prep like things. something along those lines

Clemente's Anatomy
Lange Biochemistry & Genetics Flash Cards

I would like to be able to highlight in the question stems like you can on the real CBTs.

1.PreTest for USMLE Step 2 CK: Surgery
2.PreTest for USMLE Step 2 CK: Medicine

Linking the above to a question bank that could be accessed offline would be even better.

Access to USMLE material anywhere, anytime, at the touch of a button turns 10 extra minutes into a study opportunity. Modality has a number of USMLE question-bank apps available for iPhone and iPod touch, including:

First Aid Q&A for USMLE Step 1
Lange Q&A: USMLE Step 1
Lange Q&A: USMLE Step 2 CK
Lange Q&A: USMLE Step 3
PreTest USMLE Review: Emergency Medicine
PreTest USMLE Review: Family Medicine
PreTest USMLE Review: Medicine
PreTest USMLE Review: Neurology
PreTest USMLE Review: Obstetrics & Gynecology
PreTest USMLE Review: Pediatrics
PreTest USMLE Review: Psychiatry
PreTest USMLE Review: Surgery
USMLE Consult: Step 1 - Block 1
USMLE Consult: Step 1 - Block 2
USMLE Consult: Step 1 - Block 3

All content is stored locally on your device - an internet connection is not needed. These applications provide detailed answer explanations, a customizable quiz dashboard, quiz and assessment tools to track progress and success, the ability to bookmark and save questions for future study, and an optional timer to help establish pace.

I would like to put in a clinical diagnosis and then have the app give me questions about the etiology, path, treatment etc. along with relevant images.

Rohen's atlas
Moore's atlas

These seem most interesting. Thanks!

My perfect app. to help me study would include flash cards and quizzes. The content would be broken down into subsections, and you would be able to include or omit certain topics from the card study or quiz. Quiz results would be broken down to allow you to view which areas you are weak in.

1. Lange Q&A for USMLE Step 1
2. Lange Pathology Flash Cards

Modality's customizable quiz dashboard allows you to create personalized review sessions, focused on exactly the type and quantity of questions you want to cover at that moment. Many of our apps also offer detailed statistics organized by category to highlight stronger and weaker areas.

The perfect study app would allow the user to study anything related to the basic sciences. Also, there would be multiple images of the same "(insert cell type, dissection, etc. here)". This would have to be partially web-based, but it would save time by giving students an answer without having to wade through a lot of books/apps/etc.

App choices:
1. Lange Pharmacology Flash Cards
2. First Aid for USMLE Step 1

The perfect app would have MC questions and be able to not only show me my progress, but be able to track my cumulative averages overall and according to subject. It would also give me an idea of where I fell in the distribution among my peers who were also using the app.

1. Lange Q&A: USMLE Step 2 CK
2. PreTest USMLE Review: Medicine

My ideal medical app would be a reader-type application that streamlined buying medical references and organized them in a useful manner. It would also provide suggestions relevant to my area of study and in certain instances offer relevant journal articles.

Choices:

1. Pretest for USMLE Step 2 CK: Medicine
2. Lange Q&A for USMLE Step 2 CK

Would it be possible for you to put prices next to your items on here? I am extremely interested in these applications as I have a lot of downtime in the hospital, but it would be nice to have the prices in front of me so I could prioritize (I don't have infinite amounts of money to spend, haha).

I just downloaded pretest surgery off of the app store today while I was standing around on anesthesia. I have been getting so much done on typical downtime already today. Extremely useful and intuitively put together. I especially live that I can create custom quizzes pertaining to one or multiple areas of study. Well done guys... Seriously. 30 bucks is hefty especially when I can't share the app as I would share a book but I would say it's worth it for convenience and portability.

We are glad to hear that you are turning downtime into study time with our apps! All Modality apps are custom-built to provide rapid, customizable access to trusted resources.

Don't forget to bookmark and save difficult questions to discuss and review with colleagues!

I always thought that buying apps for the iphone/itouch was a waste of money until I seen my brother in law with the anatomy app, and one for USMLE 1. I was quite impressed with the work modality put into their applications. I do feel that have the app on the phone is much easier to carry that a heavy book or a bunch of flash cards. Makes life easier especially on your arms and back 😉

Only one day left to get in the running for a FREE app from Modality, the premier mobile learning architect for iPhone and iPod touch.

Post an answer to the following question:
"If you could create the perfect app to help you study, what would it be?"

Good luck!

Hmm... I'd say one of that nags me incessantly about not studying. Because I really should be doing more of that.👍

(And I mean that in all seriousness. I already have a make-your-own-flashcard app that syncs my phone and my mac, otherwise I'd third/fourth that suggestion. My only beef with it (it's not a modality app) is that there's no directly compatible windows app so I can share with my friends. 🙁)

Choices:
Lange Pathology Flash Cards
Lange Pharmacology Flash Cards

one that could read the front of a flashcard that i type up and then the back of it like a little later. also with voice commands such as correct, incorrect, remove card etc.

1. Lange Q&A for USMLE Step 1
2. First Aid for USMLE Step 1

I definitely think a Q&A app for step 1 would be the most helpful; something that lets me be quized on random things I might not have seen in a few weeks or months that I can just hit in those random 5 minute breaks would be extremely useful.

🙂

1. Lange Pharmacology Flash Cards
2. Lange Microbiology & Infectious Diseases Flash Cards

Big things for me when studying are being able to mark cards that I already know so that they don't come up again, being able to edit to add in information like perhaps a mnemonic I want to remember, and if they are in a question format having explanations for both the right and wrong answers. Pictures and flowcharts are also super helpful.

1. First Aid for USMLE Step 1
2. Lange Biochemistry & Genetics Flash Cards

The perfect app in my opinion should include an option to type our small notes that would accompany each screen.

Choices:
1 . First Aid for USMLE Step 1

2. Lange Q&A for USMLE Step 1

A perfect Q&A app would include easy memory tricks and mnemonics with question answers, allowing easy memory of information included in items that you got wrong.

Choices:
1. Pretest for USMLE Step 2CK: Surgery
2. Pretest for USMLE Step 2CK: Neurology

For me, I have found that premade flash cards either have more info or not enough info for what I want. I'd like to be able to customize the cards a little bit somehow.

1st: Lange Biochemistry & Genetics Flash Cards
2nd: Clemente's Anatomy

The perfect study help app would allow me to review topics, generate question sets based on a variety of topics, give score reports including how I compared to other students who answered each question, and make notes or "star" various questions for further review. It could even include references for where to find additional information for each question topic such as page numbers in First Aid, PreTest, etc...

I know the give-away is over, but I still thought I'd share my ideas...
