I received an email from the Wingate Pharmacy school today saying that they had a problem with an external board this year and will not be accepting a class for Fall of 2005. Does anyone else know anything about this? More details?

This is the email.Bah, they're my backup of backup of backup school anyway.

"We regret to inform you that the interviews for admission to the Wingate University School of Pharmacy have been cancelled until further notice. On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Wingate University received official notice in a letter dated Jan. 13, 2005, from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the regional higher education accrediting body for general university accreditation. The letter stated that the university's application for membership at Level 5 – the level required to offer the Doctor of Pharmacy Program – was approved. However, in the same letter, the university was notified that the commission had placed the university, not the school of pharmacy, on probation for 12 months because of a procedural breach on the part of the University. Wingate University continues to be fully accredited by SACS, and all of its current programs, including the first two classes of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program, are unaffected and will continue to operate uninterrupted. However, SACS has requested that the University discontinue the prospective pharmacy student applicant interview process until SACS has performed an on-site accreditation evaluation and confirmation as a follow-up to the procedural breach. We are attempting to schedule the on-site accreditation evaluation/confirmation soon, but we will need to work on the agency's timetable. Therefore, the prospective pharmacy student interview schedule has been cancelled until further notice. We will keep you posted as to the results of our ongoing discussions with that agency, as Wingate University President Jerry McGee has requested a meeting with SACS next week. When any additional information that will affect the outcome for the current student application process for the class entering in the fall of 2005 is forthcoming, we will be back in contact with you immediately. "

Wow you posted fast, 1 min before me! I hope that doesn't happend to other applicants to other schools. Good luck on your other applications!

That doesn't sound like much of a problem. I'm sure this will be worked out rather quickly by SACS and Wingate will be just fine. This has nothing to do with the School of Pharmacy itself, nor it's accreditation status.

I hope it's not a problem. It was one of my choices. All I got from the email was they are not doing interviews anymore and will not have a specific date or time to start again (IF they even do interviews this year).

This doesn't sound too good. 👎

There are certain channels that Universities must go through in order to be able to grant professional level degrees. Wingate was aware of this requirement and although they did not have this status, they felt it appropriate to admit a class of Pharm D candidate students. The licensure board was none too pleased that the proper channels weren't followed. I assume this will be nothing more than a blip on the radar screen, but one must wonder about the ethics of such a decision. I hope this won't cause major problems for anyone. I guess there always is the risk of such things when looking at a new school.

I'm probably just clueless but what does wingate have to do with the government. Unless of course you are noticing the similarity of the name to watergate. 😕

watergate...
memogate...

they always put gate on the end of their scandals for some reason...
