I know, I know… An Ortho hand surgeon friend of mine owns one and he is trying to convince me to purchase one as well.

I've seen photos of a custom Tesla convertible and didn't really like it. So that's what's stopping me is the lack of a convertible top.

And fancy? There is no way in hell I'm paying $200,000 for a car even if I could afford it.

Hrmph. Fine.

I default to my original recommendation then. Or get the MB SL.

I guess that's one of the issues is that I see the BMWs everywhere here so I was tending to shy away from them because I don't want the same car that every other Scottsdale woman has.

Really? What do they say?

I don't think I'm a Subaru type but I'll check it out,

Agreed. There are A LOT of people that drive BMWs. But M3/4s do stand out. But not like a Porsche.
Foresters = lesbians. lol

What about 2.5 Million?

You could get a used roadster?

I don't get the appeal of buying new unless it's some rare car you've been waiting to own forever. Otherwise... save the money and buy used.

I should have clarified; yes, it comes in a hard-top convertible. That picture was meant to show you the BMW M4 as an... ahem... better option than the MB SL. It doesn't hurt that everyone prefers BMW over MB for 2 doors. 4 doors... that's MB.

There's a comment I want to say... but I can't. I'll just say that there's a certain joke about women driving those cars.
Albeit, Forester FXT is awesome.

I googled the forester thing.

Conclusion of this thread. I want @Winged Scapula monies. Wrong effing profession I picked. RAGE
I'm sure you make plenty of money. Just start doing more cosmetic dentistry, right?
I'd get this. Or one of these.
Those are gorgeous (although I feel like I should be driving them while smoking a pipe and wearing a woolen sweater); they just aren't "daily drivers" and if I"m paying 6 figures for a car, I don't expect to have to manually remove the hard top and store it in my garage - its got to be able to be stored in the trunk.
You are all sooooo... generic (except for @joker2400 ).

Here you go, WS.

Very stylish but it appears to have a "kit car interior". Not very luxurious; looks "plastic-y".

How about the F-Type or XK convertibles?
I've always liked Jaguar; probably because my dad drove an XK when I was a kid but I've always been under the impression that they are not very reliable. Is that still true?

****Plus still with the soft tops***. Seriously the noise from those, even in the nicest luxury cars, is annoying. I need to have a hard top convertible.

Soooo... SL63 AMG?

Teeth money is great, I'm waiting for vascular surgeon monies though. Teeth + varicose veins = so many shooz

Maybe - I like the "air scarf" but honestly, the front end and the rims on all of the SLs are too sporty looking. I want sleek elegance.

I am very hard to please: MB SL too "grill-y", BMW 4 too "boxy". I like the body style of the Infiniti Q60; looks similar to my car.

Very well, I will dig some more tomorrow after my exam.

Are you looking to buy new, or is used an option? Your options if you want to stick to some sort of budget expand significantly if you look at used. And used can be a very safe bet when you focus on some middle tier sport/luxury cars, unlike buying used if you start getting into the more sport oriented exotics.

I am thinking along the lines of Maserati if you want something Italian, or even a gorgeous Aston Martin AMV8 if you want to channel your inner spy.

Out of the German cars, BMW has my heart.

Nnnnooooooooo. MB > BMW. Then again I am sort of a superfob and all us brownies love our Mercedes'

I did see my dad googling the new Bentley SUV today though, my mom wants a new car. "Bentayga" it's called. Weird name

BMWs have **** reliability these days, I really wouldn't recommend them.

One time I was trying to drive Kaus' car and couldn't get it shifted out of manual mode into automatic mode and was literally rolling backwards on a main road.

The freak out that followed was pretty funny in retrospect

I used to love BMWs, but I'm inclined to agree after seeing my dad's interior fall apart after only a few years. His twin turbo was also falling apart... how very sad. I thought I broke it driving to a friend's house one night because I stepped on the gas too much merging onto the interstate. Light came on and I thought I was screwed. What the hell is the point of having a twin turbo if it's just going to fail and leave you feeling like you have to baby the gas pedal. I was very unimpressed, to say the least, and I think my dad was as well considering he has never spent that kind of money on a car. He puts mad miles on his cars for the commute to work, so I doubt he'll splurge until he retires. I know he isn't going back to a BMW.

Except almost all M owners never complain, really. Aside from SMG pump for M3... But I can't honestly say you'll find any sports car w/o issues. Porsche Carrera's are the worse; the IMS failure costing 15-20k with pretty much no warranty on it. I found one for a decent price and then realized if I had that failure; it'd cost as much as the car. How is that worth it? lol
I could go on for days, but in the end... it's a sports car, not a Honda Civic.

I know what you're talking about and it's not the turbo... it's the high pressure fuel pump; which BMW will cover at no cost. Actually, now that I think about it, BMW has been the most amazing for my car issues. They give me a loaner car at no cost for however long it takes to get my issues taken care of. I thought my car being so old wouldn't get that level of service, but they did it.

Yep there's a reason we refer!to them as donor cycles.

Even if you're the best damn motorcyclist on the planet; you still have to deal with ****ty drivers on the road. THAT's what scares me.. especially being in an open vehicle like that where I'll be ejected/thrown if anything happens.
If you want to see painful; look at the european motorcycle race crashes; guy going 200 mph hits a guard rail and is ejected at least 100 yards. How is that fun?

A majority of the bad motorcycle accidents I've seen were not the fault of the rider- it's almost always somebody not noticing them. A motorcycle would be fine to own in the middle of nowhere, but in any place where there's other people to worry about, they're ******ed.

Oh, and my bet as to why M3 owners don't complain about reliability is that most of them don't use their M3 as a commuter or don't put many miles on them. If it's going to be your only vehicle, I wouldn't put the M3 at the top of my list.

the M3 is his daily driver, i want something else as a daily. like maybe an SUV.

what i REALLY want is a vespa, but no one will let me get one.

Agreed with much of this, but even having a motorcycle in the middle of nowhere is a gamble. During my few years working and volunteering in rural EMS I worked multiple Motorcycle vs. Deer scenes where the rider either lost function of limbs or flat out lost the limbs. That's led me to believe that the safest place to ride a motorcycle is actually on the race track, and even some of those aren't well controlled as far as wildlife.

Nice to know that the service is good, but you would hope that spending that kind of money you wouldn't have those types of problems. Still, no car is without its issues at some point. I will say that out of the 8 years he had it, he put over 175k miles on it with only that pump/turbo/whatever being the most major problem to complain about. I guess that's not bad at all in retrospect.

And then there's always the chance of a tire blowout- when you've only got two wheels and one explodes at 70 miles an hour, good luck staying in control of the damn bike. I'd be interested in seeing how daily riders compare to smokers and others engaging in dangerous behavior in regard to morbidity and mortality,

During my racing days we would often run into guys that raced motorcycles. They would often regale us with their 3-page long list of injuries. One thing that almost all of them said went something like this: "Every time I've seen a racecar that's been destroyed in a wreck, the first thing that always comes to mind is that the cage is still good." Yet for some reason, very few of them ever decided to get their speed fix using something with four wheels and one of those nice cages. The analogy to smoking is great on multiple levels.

Agreed to motorcycles..which is what I think I said.

Actually... M3's are driven way more than most sports cars. They're not bad cars to drive around in (kinda like Porsche's) and I don't think I've met a person who hated the car (they seem to love them). But I'm biased.

The cost to own, something a lot of people don't factor when purchasing these things, isn't cheap. The 335's were switched fairly recently to the V6-TT and the issues they had weren't bad. Not to mention they honored their claim to fix it.
If you want bad... look at the newer Subaru STi's. I've never seen a bigger design flaw than an engine that has a high rate of piston failure requiring a new motor. Worst yet; Subaru has never covered the cost to repair it. They claim "You were racing it... that's why". When a) it's a performance model... so even if they raced it; how is it their fault? b) most owners didn't race it and were still screwed.

I do admit that I've yet to see any newer Audi's with issues.

I also shudder to think the cost of ownership for a Bugatti Veyron. Oil change; $15,000 lol

You should post that Ferrari video. I think it was a Ferrari right?

I agree with your assessments of motorcycles being dangerous to ride in a large population area, hence my post to fancymylotus. I think there is a stat somewhere that says somewhere in their life, a motorcyclist will get hit. Happened to me once but luckily only a scrape on the knee. In Southern Arizona its not much a problem riding a motorcycle but I cant say the same in downtown Tucson or entire Phoenix area.

Man with the cars listed here you guys must be ballin. I'm just going to get a Camaro at an used car dealership.

The only person anywhere close to baller status in here is WS. The rest of us are just at minion status :/
