Has anyone heard anything from Wisconsin yet? I know they do not do interviews, so I am not sure if that means the letters will be coming soon? I am out of state as well, so not sure how that plays into the scheme of things....

I was also wondering about Wisconsin, so I went back to re-read the e-mail they sent after recieving my supplemental application. In there, it says we will hear by the end of March. I really hope they are just giving us the latest possible date and that this year we hear back a little sooner!

I had to email Wisc. a couple of days ago and asked when we would hear so if I hear anything different I will let yall know.

I emailed them a couple weeks ago and they said the selection will take place in mid-February and notifications will go out in early March. Looks like we still have a lot of time to wait!

does wisconsin have any sort of online status page? I vaguely remember signing onto something to check the status of my application material... but cannot remember if there was any sort of decision status page? for a place that does zero interviews, this definitely is taking way too long 🙂

I was wondering this too. There was a page for the secondary app, but I don't remember if there was any sort of status check.

I haven't heard a peep out of them since they asked me a couple of questions mid last semester.

when I checked the supp. app. page a couple of days ago, there was no new link to anything about the status of our enrollment/rejection

sorry were slow, we dont have all that fancy technology like the rest of the states. we still use smoke signals.

1 puff = rejection, 2 = waitlist, 3 = acceptance?? 😀

lol you got it! you must be a native.😀

Oh no. How am I supposed to know whether or not I got accepted? :scared: I don't think I'll be able to see the signals all the way over here in good ol' polluted NY.. Carrier pigeons maybe? 😉

The woman who answers the phone over there is super sweet.

Good to know. Some schools act like its a chore to talk to you..but then again they must get swamped with calls during admissions season.

Carrier Pigeons?? Thats going to cost you.

Just got the phone call from the associate dean! Got in!! Can't wait to see the school.

So today must have been out-of-state acceptance day, I got a call too. (1000 out-of-state applicants for 20 seats? Yeesh. Super congrats to everyone who made it. I'm glad I didn't know the numbers would be that bad when I applied, I might have skipped it.) Oh, and hooray for schools that take the time to call with acceptances over the phone, it's definitely a nice touch.

(So at the end of the conversation Dr. Olsen says "Oh, and you'll be getting an official letter and a whole packet of information and everything, so you'll know the phone call was real and I'm not just some crazy guy..." 🙂 I like the place already.)

EDIT: Oh, texlaevis, you are *not* kidding about the uninformativeness of the web site (in your post below). I was actually in the basement when Dr. Olsen first called, so my cell phone had no reception and he left a message. Having seen your earlier post I thought it might be an acceptance call (I was *hoping* they wouldn't call the rejections too!) and took another look at the website before calling back. And learned more or less nothing from it... 🙂

Has anyone been to the school? What's it like? I'm so excited to learn about it-- I wish that Texas was closer so I could check it out right now!! I'm tired of reading the somewhat uninformative website 😀

Congratulations kate_g and texlaevis! I am excited about learning more about the school too. The dean was super friendly too.

I checked the price for the school, and it turns out that it’s not such a bad deal! The price is somewhere in the middle-high 30s for out-of-state people. I definitely don't have that kind of money- I will be going into debt too. But I have to pay that, or more, anywhere I go!

I definitely can't wait to see the school. Are you guys going to go to the orientation day? I believe that it is on the 30th of March.

I go to school in Madison, and even though I am not applying to vet schools yet I like it. The people for the most part are super friendly. The teaching hospital is pretty up to date, technology wise. The hospital is huge and connected right to the vet school. Your in dairy country so if your large animal you would be in the right place. Since its attached to such a big university, there is a ton of research opportunities and animal experiences. There is always a new opportunity to work or volunteer at animal related places. Madison as a city is really nice. I am from New York and am use to NYC but Madison is really nice, its a real "college" town. Your not too far from attractions such as the Wisconsin Dells and two ski resorts, even though you might not have the free time . Its a big ten school so there is always a big sporting event going on. They have all the specialities (as far as small animal is concerned) at the hospital. Since there are not a lot of animal hospitals around wisconsin that are specialized you get a fairly large case load, a lot of surrounding counties drive 2 hours to take there animals to the hospital. If you have any other questions about the school or Madison in general I would be more than happy to answer.

i'll be going to orientation. i am sooooo excited i can't stop jumping up and down!

This is what I thought too. I had just looked at their website. In-state tuition $16K (plus fees), out-of-state $24K (plus fees). HOWEVER... The father of another applicant mentioned to me today that his daughter was excited about Wisconsin because the price is the same in state and out of state. Anybody know whassup with that? Is she just mistaken? Did he hear her wrong? Or is the OOS tution technically $24K but there's some magic automatic scholarship that makes it the same as in-state...? They certainly didn't tell me about that in the phone call, anyway. I'd really like to believe that it would only cost $16K OOS, but I *did* read $24K on the web site...

I think Wisconsin may be a state where you can move there for vet school and after a year, claim residency. I could be wrong, but that's the only thing I could think of for why he'd say that. It sounds familiar when I think about Wisconsin.

Aha! That would make sense... I don't think their website says anything (surprise!) about whether or not you can apply for residency after the first year, but it would kind of tie things together neatly...

Did anyone receive a formal letter (accept/reject) from Madison this week?

The word from the Admissions Office is that letters went out this past week and we should get them early next week.

Thanks. My stomach is in my throat but, it's good to know they finally went out.

What kind of stats characterize out-of-state applicants who are accepted to Wisconsin? Ive checked out their website - The nonresident acceptance rate is really low, but the resident and nonresident stats are surprisingly similar. I'd think the nonresidents would have to be a lot higher...anyone feel like giving anecdotal stats?

Were there really 1000 applicants for 20 seats? I searched the webpage for that figure and couldn't find it anywhere. Was that something your contact person told you when he called?

Just got a call from a radiologist at Wisconsin and I'm accepted! I had given up hope...and I looked and it's so reasonably priced! whoo!

That's what Dr. Olsen said on the phone. Looks like he's the head admissions guy, so I'd guess he wasn't making it up. 🙂 But he may have mis-spoken, or I may have misunderstood... Davis "only" got 1100 applicants total, in-state and out. I think Minnesota and Penn both said they got somewhere in that range too (1000-1200). Even given their favorable out-of-state price I'd be surprised if Wisconsin got 1000 out-of-state applicants on top of the 1000 in-state they probably got. Maybe the "over 1000" number was total applicants, and there are 20 out-of-state seats, and he just put those two numbers in the same sentence without meaning to suggest that there were actually 1000 out-of-state applicants?

I just got a call from the janitorial department at Wisconsin; they informed me that while letters have already gone out, my app was found in the restroom garbage today with poop stains on it...so things aren't lookin so hot

I just looked at Wisconsin's page again, and it says that last year they got 812 out of state, and 179 in state applicants. And since the number of applicants is supposedly going up every year, it's possible they got 1000 OOS this year. They don't list a breakdown of accepted students by residency, though -- but I'm willing to believe it's only 20. Wow. 2%, huh?

That cracked me up

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if someone can help me out. I want to contact the radiologist that called yesterday, but I don't have his number with me.

For those people that also got a call yesterday (Wed), would you please post the number and the name of the cardiologist? That would be awesome!

Thanks you.

I'm trying to coordinate a visit to Wis so I attend the orientation, and I want to ask him a couple of questions.

Thanks!🙂

Julian

To anyone going to Wisconsin next year:

I am graduating from Wisco this year and will be moving back to the East coast to go to UPenn. I live in a very affordable and nice efficancy right now that is right behind the vet school (there is a busy road between it though). If you walked around it takes maybe 7 minutes to get to the school or you can apparently run across the road. It's $476 a month with all utilities and cable internet included (a great deal). It's privately owned and the landlord is very nice. Cats and dogs welcome (little small for a big dog though). If anyone is interested in the place for the fall let me know and I'll give you the landlord's contact. He hasn't started showing the place yet. If there are any other question about the vet school (I have class there 3 days a week) or Madison itself feel free to ask.

Okay, I've seen posts that say letters went out last week and another that says this week. Has anyone gotten anything? I can't take it anymore.

Hey Julian...did you get contacted by a radiologist or cardiologist? if it was a radiologist, PM me and I'll send you the #.

Waiting here too! Nothing in the mail today again. 🙁

All rumors aside, letters have officially been sent out. I recieved mine today from the Office of Academic Affairs by regular USPS. I do live in Madison though so it doesn't take long for intra city mail to be delivered. Good luck to those waiting and don't be too mean to your mailman if he doesn't bring it tomorrow 🙂

All letters out? I havent gotten one yet.....I wonder if thats good or bad. hmmm (PA)

Received my rejection letter on Saturday (NY)

Got notice of my alternate status today - no big deal, already have other great choices.

Hey, guys -- my official acceptance came in the mail on Friday. Large envelope (8 1/2 x 11); can't remember if it was white or manila. I'm in Missouri. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting!
