With the # of students failing step 1 on the rise, what do you think will happen in the next USMLE meeting review of step 1 in December?

Nothing for Step 1. They’ll probably make Step 2 P/F and increase the threshold. Tbh these exams have not been shown to be indicative of anything relevant to clinical practice. I’m not saying they’re useless. Scoring so low would be a red flag, but scoring a 250 vs. 260 is gravy, yet people literally judge their self esteem based off of being 10 points above the national average…

Step 2 going P/F will never happen. The biggest driver to having Step 1 going P/F is that you could replace it with Step 2. If Step 2 goes P/F then you’re essentially ranking people by school rank, which is essentially a proxy for ranking people by the MCAT.
