Withdraw from class with AP credit?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Based on other threads that I have read regarding the same question, I think it is safe for me to say that you are not completely in the red. I beleive you will have to explain the W. However, once again based on what others have said, freshman year (assuming you are a freshman) is usually a mediocre year for most students. I am sure this would be a bigger issue if you were in your junior or senior year.

Keep up the hard work, bud 🙂

if you took the ap test and passed above a 3 then its nothing to worry about 🙂

I am in the exact same position as you. I am taking Calc I and the average for our first midterm was 50%. I myself received a 55%. However, I talked to the professor and she told me to not worry about it. Everyone usually does poorly on the first midterm and that eventually I would realise that everything we do after this would start to become much easier. She told me to stick through it, apply myself accordingly now that I now the difficulty and do well. Easier said than done of course, but so far from assignments and what not I have been doing much better.

I am a freshman myself and while I may be wrong, I think the best advice I can give (which was initially given to me) is to stay on top of things. Read before the class starts, do all the suggested problems, use office hours and your universities math centre if you have one. All of this has so far improved my grade. As a matter of fact, I can technically still get an A in the class. 😛 Once again easier said than done, though.

One thing to keep in mind is that AP credit generally does not count towards pre-reqs for schools. Very few med schools accept AP credit. Some schools require calculus so it is likely for some schools you will have to take it at some point.

if i get B+s for the other tests, i can pull off a B final grade. If i do much better, i could have a shot of an A-/B+

is a B final grade not worth it if i could just withdraw with an AP credit?

I think regardless if you have AP credit, you will still have a W on your transcript because you already withdrew. In any case, my professor told me that it probably better if I try really hard to at least obtain a B or even an A over a W. I mean youd on't need a perfect 4.0 GPA to get into med school and I am sure a B would be fine.

Good luck. 🙂
