Hi all,

After scoring 515+ on my last three AAMC practice exams, I scored a 505 on the real deal on 7/13. I was planning to apply this cycle, and I already submitted my secondary to one school while awaiting the score release. Besides my MCAT, I am told that I am competitive applicant and would be considered among T20.

I am planning to retake in January and to reapply next cycle. However, before getting the L from the school that I applied to (a T20, and their minimum was a 508 last year), I want to withdraw my app. In the withdrawal letter, can I explicitly tell them that I am withdrawing in order to retake the MCAT to have another shot at achieving a score that is more in accordance with my AAMC MCAT practice test average and that I look forward to reapplying next cycle.

I think it would be suspicious to not be truthful or to give them a reason, and I don't want to blow my shot with them for next cycle. Any advice on if this is ok to do, and also, if there are other things that I should say?

I don’t think you need to withdraw.
Since you only submitted to one school, that is the only one where you will be labeled a reapplicant next year.
Let this one run its course -

But isn't it worse to be rejected and to have to reapply, than to withdraw and reapply?

No. Especially to just one school. You did the smart thing. Your call if you want to apply DO now, or regroup for a stronger AMCAS application next cycle. No one cares about your reason to retake your MCAT; that should be obvious.

Only at that school, and even then when one shows Improvement one gets a chance at acceptance. Also schools do not talk to each other over who is rejected and who is not. That would be collusion.
