I've been fighting against Crohn's disease for the last few years and had to drop out after midterms last semester due to needing surgery, leaving me with 5 withdrawls.

I'm considering dropping my Statics (not a BCPM) class (sad considering I had a 95 with a different professor before I dropped last semester) since I've bombed both exams, and I'm changing majors out of engineering anyway.

I'm afraid of being screened out for having six withdraws, but if I explained why that happened (obviously planned to do that), would it be possible to not have that dropped semester counted against me and treat this Statics class as if it was my only withdraw?

I thought statistics was BCPM. Misread my apologies

I think an adcom ( ex. @Goro @LizzyM ) would be the best sources to answer this question.

This would definitely be something that you would need to explain on your primary/secondaries. As someone with UC, I can sympathize. These diseases can reek havoc on a person's body, especially in college when stress levels are so high. In my opinion, overcoming something like you have would actually be a positive on an application. Fighting something like Crohn's and still managing to be successful in school is extraordinary, but that's just my two cents.

And I doubt that one non-medical withdrawal would be looked poorly upon.

Dropping a whole semester due to health issues is not a big deal as long as you can assure the adcom that your health issues are under control and won't -- or are unlikely to be - an issue in medical school. This is pretty important because needing to take time off in M1 or M2 means taking off an entire year and picking up the next year where you left off.

If one of your LORs, ideally from a faculty member who taught you or an advisor, validates the reason for the dropped semester, it would be very helpful.

To support your contention that you're now fine and have been for awhile, it would be ideal to apply with 1.5-2 years of consistent, recent, excellent academics on your transcript.
