Here is the situation: I received my bachelors degree a year ago and was waitlisted at a med school that year, which I ended-up not getting into. I have met with several people and my main problem for not getting in was due to my low MCAT score, which I had only taken once. Everything else in my application is great and the schools I interviewed at told me to just improve my MCAT and I would be an excellent applicant.
So here is where my issue starts: I applied to various graduate and post-bac programs as my plan B to start in 2009. I gained acceptance to a post-bac program that basically gave me the option to take graduate and medical school courses and IF I ended up doing well in them they would accept me to their med school without having me retake the MCAT.
So after receiving such an offer, I decided to do this program, which I thought was such a great opportunity. I am currently in the program and the problem now is that for one of the courses I am currently in, I received a score lower than the mean for the first test. I am afraid if I don't do well in the remaining test that we have coming up that I might fail the course and it will show on my transcript. The program is listed as a graduate, non-degree expected program or it could be called a post-bac program.
My question is should I take the risk of possibly failing the course or avoid the risk and get a W (withdrawal) for the two courses I have for this semester? I can then leave the program and just retake my mcat and reapply at the school I was WL at next application cycle. Will my W's/leaving cause major red flags? Should I try my best to pass or is it not worth the risk? I should add that my academic problem has been due to a family emergency which happened to occur during this course.
Any tips/advice?
