Withdrawing from post-bac / grad course

if your mcat sucks..
then..
dun dun dun..
retake it -.-
post-bacc's are particularly for people trying to get into SMP's when they have a low gpa, or to get the pre-req's when you do not have them.

so do some researching some more hospital time.. and spending a few month for mcat prep and retake..

if i were you..
continue with this semester of your postbacc and end it then..
you'll get some refreshment and be more preped for your mcat..

Here is the situation: I received my bachelors degree a year ago and was waitlisted at a med school that year, which I ended-up not getting into. I have met with several people and my main problem for not getting in was due to my low MCAT score, which I had only taken once. Everything else in my application is great and the schools I interviewed at told me to just improve my MCAT and I would be an excellent applicant.

So here is where my issue starts: I applied to various graduate and post-bac programs as my plan B to start in 2009. I gained acceptance to a post-bac program that basically gave me the option to take graduate and medical school courses and IF I ended up doing well in them they would accept me to their med school without having me retake the MCAT.

So after receiving such an offer, I decided to do this program, which I thought was such a great opportunity. I am currently in the program and the problem now is that for one of the courses I am currently in, I received a score lower than the mean for the first test. I am afraid if I don't do well in the remaining test that we have coming up that I might fail the course and it will show on my transcript. The program is listed as a graduate, non-degree expected program or it could be called a post-bac program.

My question is should I take the risk of possibly failing the course or avoid the risk and get a W (withdrawal) for the two courses I have for this semester? I can then leave the program and just retake my mcat and reapply at the school I was WL at next application cycle. Will my W's/leaving cause major red flags? Should I try my best to pass or is it not worth the risk? I should add that my academic problem has been due to a family emergency which happened to occur during this course.

Any tips/advice?

Yes, that would be a major red flag.

Post-baccs are usually to take the pre-reqs if you didn't when you earned your degree. SMPs are usually an attempt to raise a poor gpa.

OP, dropping out of a post-bacc would definitely raise a red flag. Just because you got waitlisted once doesn't mean you will again. They will reevaluate your entire application. There needs to be improvement from one year to the next.
