Hey,

I have completed 1 yr of premed and 4 semesters of MD at SGU. I had some personal issues so I was unable to meet my WMPG requirements (requirement 75% - I got 74%). I was recommended for dismissal and had the option to appeal or withdrawal. I chose to appeal and that got rejected as well. Again I was given the optioning of withdrawing which I took.

I dont know how to move forward from here. I have no bachelor's degree as I entered premed (yr 3) directly after 12th grade. I want to transfer to other medical schools either in the Caribbean or U.S since I still want to pursue my MD degree. Is there a way to transfer in between terms instead of starting all over again. I studied under the Indian curriculum system so I do not understand the American system too well.

Any suggestions of advice is highly appreciated.
Thank you everyone. Have a good day.

It’s not going to happen at an American school — you are an Indian citizen from what you wrote?

I'm sorry you got some bad advice in pursuing a "fast-track" via the Caribbean. Your story is all too common.

You might be able to find a Caribbean school that will take you, but your odds of getting a US residency slot is almost nonexistent with a withdrawal on your record. Unless your goal is to pursue a path OTHER than clinical medicine with US residency training (not sure if there's something you could use your MD for back in India, or a nonclinical job), I think you need to write these 2 years off as a sunk cost, get a bachelor's degree and find something else that will make you happy. Any further money and time you throw at this is only going to dig you a deeper hole.

OP I just want to say that I feel for you. To come so close to the cut off (within 1%) and not make it can't be easy, but perhaps this was the sign you needed and you should be happy it came sooner rather than later.

The advice everyone else has given in this thread is correct. Time to regroup, reflect, and find a new path forward.

If I were in your shoes I would set up my path like this:
- Get a bachelors in a field I enjoyed or I could see myself working in (on the order of years)
- Make some money to recoup the costs of school (on the order of years)
- Consider further education once you have set a new foundation (indefinite)

All the best to you, and try to be easy on yourself when you need it.
