Women's Interview Outfit Shoe Question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Choose something you can walk - no, make that sprint - in. You'll most likely be on a quite speedy tour of the school and those adorable heels can be heck when the day is over.

Wear something comfortable, that has been broken in. Nothing worse than trying to walk around in a shoe you just bought and having blisters by the end of the day. So if you can walk in 4 inch heels and they look nice with your suit... go for it.

Hose aren't mandatory, but they will help you look more professional, especially if you have any marks on your legs that could do with some smoothing over. I work in Mary Kay, and at one of our conferences, more than one woman in my group made comments about women who didn't wear their hose.

If you don't want to wear hose but still want your legs to look great and smooth, try Sally Hansen "Airbrush Legs" spray. It works wonders and looks natural.

That's the second rec I see for that. I'll definitely check it out. Thank you.

Wear pantyhose. although uncommon now, older generations look at pantyhose as part of underwear, and not wearing them is equiv to not wearing a bra and/or undies to your interview...

Those look appropriate to me, but make sure they are comfy/broken in. In my opinion, patent leather can be one of the most uncomfortable materials to wear for an entire day.

All I can say is wear flats for the interview. Your feet will thank you.

Also, even if you don't believe in hose (which I don't), I would still wear it to interviews. I rarely saw women without it on the interview trail, but when I did they stuck out like a sore thumb.

just make sure you wear shoes that are closed toe!!!

i was volunteering at the hospital the other day and saw this woman (she was wearing a short white coat) and she had open toe shoes, and it just looked soo weird and unprofessional. and this is coming from someone who is pretty liberal when it comes to dressing professionally.

 Yea. definitely wear hose. It seems more professional. And when the weather gets cold, it will be necessary. Btw, i've wondered which is better pant suit or skirt? or it doesnt matter?

I really really hate hose but i think im gonna just suck it up and wear them to interviews. As far as pants vs. skirt goes, I've heard that some think it is more prudent to wear skirts but I think wear whichever makes you feel the fiercest.

I think it just depends on which you feel more comfortable wearing. If it's cold though, a pants suit will probably be more seasonally appropriate.

It doesn't really matter.

I got really hot walking around taking public transportation and also got nervous in my interviews. I think the skirt was better for those reasons. I also did all of my interviews before November, so I never had to worry about it being cold.

A skirt suit is better if you're nervous? I guess that's the suit of choice then! lol

But yea, I think all of you are right. It's more about fierceness (i like that) and comfort, not "oh my! my admissions decision hinges on whether I wear pants or a skirt!" although you never know 😉

I just meant that I get sweaty and being covered up in extra fabric wouldn't be helpful in that case. 😛
