I have seen many posts from prospective PT students wondering about what the area is like in which their prospective schools are located. This can, no doubt, create a certain amount of anxiety. I have found two sites years ago that I use just to look up towns/cities. On one you can find data about local economy, crime, age ranges. etc...This one will let even let you compare two cities side by side. The other one of them is a forum based format where you can ask "locals" questions about the area like "Is XYZ Street Apartments in a safe area?".

Here are the two links, I hope they benefit some of you:

I second the city-data.com site. I have used the forums there for several years, and most folks are very helpful.

Another useful site:

The data comes from the 2000 Census.

you can also use the website that has "walk scores." I'm not sure the exact URL, but I know in a lot of apartment listings they'll give the official "walk score" of the area, which takes into account safety, as well as pedestrian accessibility (I think).

I'm sure a quick google search will turn up info 🙂
