Work done on a treadmill: always 0J ?

just came across a fsq in which the answer for work done on a treadmill after running a few miles was 0 J, because in W = F x d, distance = 0. Seems crazy to me - obviously some work was done, right?

Well, say you had a treadmill that wasn't on and just powered by your feet. Then, you would be exerting a force to move the treadmill treads some distance back so you would be doing work.
