I'm a bit confused on the sign convention used when dealing with the work done by the system or work done on the system and how it relates to internal energy...can anyone tell me if the following statements are true or false and explain why? I'm using the chemistry definition here, assuming E = Q + W
True or False?
The internal energy of a system decreases when work is done on the system
The internal energy of a closed system can be changed by heat flowing into or out of the system.
The internal energy of an isolated system can be changed by heat flowing into or out of the system.
The internal energy of a system decreases if heat flows from the surroundings to the system
