I've been and am currently working as a tutor on craigslist for cash, so naturally my salary aren't taxed and my hours aren't logged. I have been hired by multiple tutoring organizations previously but I make less than half of what I earn than when I advertise myself. However, I value experience more than money and I don't want to look like I can't get a job or am not doing anything during my gap year.

I am wondering how could I document my hours in my primary application and would this be viewed negatively by adcoms if I keep working on craigslist? Would they simply dismiss my work experience? Is there a way to record my hours?

Thanks!

I'm sure this varies by state, but at least in NY I'm quite positive that private tutoring would be considered self-employment, which would be subjected to business licensure, taxes, deductions, and all corresponding documentation. This could be why it seems like you're making much more than you were working for a company (since they most likely have to cover all business expenses which eats away profits). Without doing it legitimately (assuming your state requires this) I would be wary of using it as a discussion point on your app since at least in my opinion it has potential to backfire on you. Again, I don't know where you're located and I'm just a nontrad premed myself so you can take what I say about admissions with a few grains of salt, but I also ran a business for a decent chunk of time so I do have experience in that regard.

They will definitely want to know what you did during your gap-year. They would certainly take into account the experience - not sure if this would result in net positivity or negativity on their part.

Tutoring helps, but I wouldn't even consider it healthcare experience...if you really want to go into medicine, show that you care about healthcare!

You doing private tutoring won't hold that much weight against someone who had active healthcare experience.

You can be honest about your private tutoring experience and how many hours you've done it.

I have over 2000 hours of tutoring experience on my app, and it was brought up 0 times in all my interviews. I don't think adcoms really care about it.

Mention it as employment and take a ballpark guess.

Just echoing that last part. I don't think adcoms really care about it either. List if as self-employment and estimate the number of hours that you've worked as a private tutor. Your experience working as a private tutor won't hurt you, but I don't think it'll really add all that much to your application to be honest. I've had hundreds of hours doing private tutoring. Same with many of my friends. None of us have ever been asked about either our official or private tutoring experiences.
