are there any options in pediatrics to have working hours somewhat like an IM hospitalist does, the option of working 12 hour shifts of 7 days on and 7 days off?if so,what is the pay scale of such an option after doing 3 years of peds residency and how does it compare to the IM hospitalist?
moreover after a fellowship in neonatology or critical care does one have the same option of working in shifts the same wayand having plenty of time off for family?

There are peds hospitalists, and at this point there is no fellowship requirements (and only 4 fellowships) so your 3 years of residency is sufficient. The schedule varies greatly by institution, but there are some that are much more "shift work" based. Urgent care is another area that has shift work and no fellowship requirement. With a fellowship, critical care, neonatology, and ED all are potentials for shiftwork. Salaries for peds hospitalists are somewhat lower than IM (of course) but start in the low 100s and go up based on location etc; the others probably a little higher, especially in non academic settings.
