Working as a DH and going to Dental School

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My friend was a hygienist before dental school, and between D1 and D2 we had a light summer with class only in the morning, so he worked then. But during the year, I have not heard of anyone working.

I plan to do an occasional 1/2day Saturday for my current office otherwise I plan to work full-time during breaks. They advise against it for 1st & 2nd year.

I will be working as a dental hygienist saturdays and sundays eventhought people say is impossible. Office where I work is not to busy and i can easily read/study when there is no patients, doctors don't mind 🙂.

It depends on your priorities.

I will actually be doing externships with my free time and studying for boards. During third and 4th year, I may take up a Saturday somewhere, depending on if it's available. If not, I'll probably end up doing research. Time is a precious thing in dental school.

I have heard some dental schools only take a moderate amount of work to pass. Unfortunately the one I attend takes much more. I personally wouldnt be able to keep up with a part time job.
