I am considering trying my hand as a Tech at a Dialysis center. Nephrology is a big interest of mine down the road, and I already have some experience with hemodialysis (some PD too). I think it would be a good opportunity but I am unsure about what it would be like. Has anyone ever worked something similar to this? I feel like it may also be a good source of patient contact while still being within my comfort zone. Any advice in terms of if this is a good idea or not?

Thanks! Any general advice would also be appreciated!

Sounds great! I did a nephro rotation and got to spend some time in the dialysis unit. Great experience for a pre-med, absolutely. Assuming you get a chance to be close enough to patients to chat with them or watch their providers interact with them (vs volunteering where you just mop the floors or something). I think the pace would be really great for learning. You should learn a ton.

My dad is a dialysis tech actually. I think it's a terrific pre-med experience, you get to learn from the nephrologists and nurses you meet, and depending on the area you work in you will see a broad spectrum of the patient population requiring dialysis. It is hard a job to be honest, but you will meet some of the most hardworking people as well.
